Cycloalkanes have general formula
The parent name of the ring is assigned by the number of carbon atoms in the ring. For the ring hydrocarbon a prefix –cyclo is added to the name of the unbranched
In case of mono-substituted cycloalkane, no locant is needed.
If two or more different substituents are existing, the numbering to the carbon starts in the direction that gives the least number at the first point of difference.
Prefixes are used to denote number of identical substituents. The substituents are written in alphabetical order when writing the IUPAC name.
