Watson and Crick discovered a duple, helical, and twisted ladder-like structure of the genetic material called DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in 1953. DNA is considered to be the genetic material for all the species apart from viruses. This discovery of the structure of DNA was groundbreaking and helped other scientists to focus on the genetics more.
