Carry out the following conversions:
(a) 1.25 light-years to miles (a light-year is an astronomical measure of the distance
traveled by light in a year, or 365 days; the speed of light is 3.00 × 10° m/s)
x 10
mi
Enter your answer in scientific notation.
(b) 27.3 yd to centimeters
x 10
cm
Enter your answer in scientific notation.
(c) 2.7 × 1010 cm/s to ft/s
X 10
ft/s
Enter your answer in scientific notation.
Suppose velocity of an object is 5.7 miles per hour. When asking this as a question, say, what is velocity in m/s -- meaning meters/sec then we think
dimensional analysis:
1 mile = 5280 ft, 1 ft = 12 in., 1 m = 39.37 in., 1 hour = 60 min, 1 min = 60 s
In short ft to in to meters; also hours to min to seconds. -- dimensional analysis.
However, in all this, do we think that avg velocity = change in distance/change in time. Please explain.
Please look at my wrong answers, so you don’t accidentally get one of those numbers. I need the correct value of N. Thanks!
