People communicate in order to express themselves; their needs, wants, ideas, likes and dislikes etc. People also communicate for social reasons; talking to friends/family, or to express emotions such as anger, pain, frustration, happiness excitement etc. Communication is used to pass informtion on to other parties, so knowladge of a subject/person can be improved and built upon. To communicate effectivley all of this must be taken into account. If communication needs are not taken into account, problems will begin to arise such as distress to the client, anger/frustrating leading to possible violence and the client not recieving adequate care. 3. Explain why it is important to observe an individuals reactions when communicating with them. A. It is important to observe an indviduals reactions when communicating to gauge how people are feeling in the situation. Some people may have barriers when it comes to communicating such as personal space issues. It is imperitive to make the client feel as comfortable as possible when communicating, if the person looks to be feeling uncomfortable with how you are communicating they may not be taking in the information you are giving them putting them at potential risk or if it is the client that is giving the information they may be holding something back again putting them at risk. Disability- many people suffer from discrimination when they have a disability. This is because they are different from others and can not physically do the things others can. This leaves them left out, not been able to socialize and feeling upset. For example if there was a man in a wheel chair in an office with his work colleges and everyone ignored him because he was different this would be discrimination.
Communication is needed to be able to express feelings, wishes, and needs. It helps makes and develops relationships with another person. Communication is paramount in a care setting, as you can build trust with a resident and also have a good working relationship with that person and their families.

It is important to support an individual in promoting their mental well-being and mental health. When offering support it is important to be patient, understanding and accepting. Talking to the individual can provide an insight into what they are going through and offering advice based on their current state of mind. Researching different mental health issues and offering resources to the individual can help them to develop new strategies to cope.
Over the year both positive and negative influences have influenced my learning. The skill I have developed for learning is my aspiration is to become a midwife, this influences my learning in the way that it gives me the hunger to learn new things and improve my knowledge and grades. Honesty is something I value in another person, and I have struggled with service users who haven’t been honest about something. I have tried hard to understand the reasons why someone would not be honest with me. Usually after I have spoken to another member of staff, and heard their input and theories I can begin to see why and move on from the incident.
