I am a lifelong musician and entrepreneur. I am 52 years young and have been a vocalist since I can remember, a keyboardist for over 25 years, and entrepreneur for just as long. I have also always been someone’s secretary, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, office manager, booking agent, and spouse and mother for about 24 years of that journey. Growing up in southern California, I have performed most styles of music and sung/played in a variety of bands and ensembles since 1980. I have covered female vocalists from the 30s and 40s through current artists. I moved from southern California to rural western Colorado in 1993 and things are unique here. In 2009, I wrote and co-produced my CD, Mosaic, with musicians in Nashville with the help of Lorna …show more content…
Mid-2014 our family business required that I devote myself full-time to business rather than school and I withdrew from the program hoping to return when our lives settled to a manageable routine. Most recently my husband and I added real estate investment and property management, to our resume. Our crowning accomplishment (besides raising three awesome young adults; 21, 19 and 16) has been the restoration/renovation of an historic building into an event and live music venue. I am running the facility/venue – The Lark & Sparrow Historic Venue – booking acoustic groups and renting it for weddings, private parties, and corporate and non-profit events. Life & Faith As a child I was raised in the Catholic faith and attended 12 years of Catholic school. Because of my upbringing, in the church, I have always known that God created me to sing, that He created me for music, and to worship him. I found my greatest joy in life in singing in children’s choir as a youth and eventually being involved in worship leading and songwriting. Fortunately, after high school I left the church and subsequently, my
For my first assignment, I interviewed Dawn VanderZwan, which is a fourth year criminal justice student in the UFV. Through our communication, I collected some information about her academic goals, workplace experiences and personal life.
For this assignment, I interviewed my friend, saeda, a married mother of two children and a 1st generation immigrant. She is a licensed practical nurse who makes about $3000 a month. She currently does not have any savings but thinks about ways to save for the future. My friend recognizes that she has a spending problem; she has attempted to free her from this never-ending cycle of spending numerous times but failed in the processes. She experiences an internal happiness when she buys things even if she does not need them. Every week she receives a direct deposit through her work, which makes it easier for her to spend her money as soon as the funds become available. She spends a good fortune of her income on buying toys for her kids and eating
In regards to my current life stage, I am a young adult and almost all of my financial income is paid in wage from my occupation as a lifeguard. As I am not a parent of any kids, my financial expenses consist of paying for food, clothing, transportation, and school fees. Therefore, most of my expenses are centered around myself and focuses on future career plans to eventually increase my income as I will be able to attain a profession after acquiring a college education. Presently, I have not surrounded myself with assets because I have not acquired my college degree or decided upon a profession; as a result, I would not be able to search for appropriate assets.
Learning is the individual growth of person and new understanding around us as a result of cooperative interaction and sharing the experiences with others. I will start describing what I learnt from interaction in pair and group after detailing how I met my partner and group. I met my partner Nuttanun on Wednesday July 8, 2015 virtually because we both were not able to attend the first class due to rescheduling issue. She approached me by email and we exchanged our phone numbers. We decided to meet in person on Thursday at 6:00 pm to understand and discuss the class we missed. We introduced each other and talked about our profession and personal lives for about an hour and then we discussed the reading material given to us. We discussed it for more than 30 minutes. After discussion we decided to fill out Engaging Across Differences sheet and passed on to each other. On Friday, we met again to answer our discussion board questions and talked about our plans for weekends. My group consist of four members

My group had an instance of functional which was to work together to achieve the assignment. We had to pick four out of eight people, and all of eight people would die very soon if they did not have another heart. After reading the assignment sheets, we could pick two people immediately, Peter and Thomas, who were young boys. We had a lot of opinions about picking the other two. For me, I would pick Father and Donna base on what I read. However, after spending about ten minutes to discuss with my group, we all had agreement for Father and Mike. Even though I picked Donna instead of Mike, the other members shared their opinions and analyzed the information; so finally, I agreed to pick Father and Mike. At first, each of us had different choice
The show that I used for this assignment was Friends. I felt that Joey played the role of the leader. When Ross told everyone he was moving, Joey was the first person to speak up about how he felt. He told the others they needed to do something to keep Ross from moving. He also went to Ross personally, and tried to convince him from following through with the move. I felt that Phoebe was the opinion giver. She kept informing the group that it was Ross' life and they should respect his decision. Whenever Joey would try to tell Ross how he felt, Phoebe would intervene to distract him. She also agreed when Ross got upset with the group. She told everyone it wasn't right to interfere with his life. With Joey taking the leader role, he helped the
However, for this schoolyear, I was put in a group with three other students, Emma, Mia, and Lucy, who do not share my same beliefs and experiences. Emma is involved in a variety of activities including numerous AP classes. As a result, she has trouble with her time commitment and I knew from the start, working with her might be a challenge; however, I hoped for the best since she usually tries to commit to her schoolwork. Mia is involved in with the spirit team, and she dedicates a lot of her time to both the team and to her job. Despite her busy schedule, she is in the top five percent of the class and hopes that this class with be an easy GPA boost. Lucy is on the volleyball team, and even though it is time consuming she prioritizes school before her other activities. Both Lucy and I are in the class because of our interest in science and the possibility for a future career. School has always been my priority and my
This project in general was kind of fun. It’s better than some of the past assignments we've had. So it might be interesting if we had future assignments similar to this, because it involves a group & I like group work, because it gets done faster. My group was fair and on task. All of us did what we had to do, because we all care about grade. Since we all care about grade a lot, we completely focused on the assignment. No one was ever off task, and that was good, because we needed to get this assignment done. Another good things is, we never argued. I’m glad this happened, because if it did we would have never finished and that would have been bad. Throughout the whole assignment my group and I had perfect communication skills with one another
As I move forward in my education, I have become more nervous and uncertain. When I started on this journey, I thought I would make a great therapist, now that I have almost completed my coursework, uncertainty and fear have taken over any confidence I once had. In our reading Comier described a professional identity, I believe this is one of my challenges (2014). This is my third career. I spent 14 years working in laboratories doing bioscience research, another 10 years in the business side of science. In both roles, I was eager to wear the clothes and learn the behaviors that are needed to be successful. This endeavor is completely different. Although there were lives involved with the bioscience job, I could only do what the biology would let me do. I never felt like anything was my fault, if things went wrong we had a team of people try and figure it out. In business, who cares if we didn’t make the deal or the project fell apart. This challenge is about people, their lives and giving them hope and tools to help make their life journey fit closer to what they want it to be. That is very intimidating. I realize I have some natural skills that help me build congruency fairly quickly, but I have no idea how to use that skill. I have read and studied and done enrichment in addition to my schoolwork and I do not feel prepared to talk with clients. So I would measure my current competency as
I have been involved in a group work for my marketing class. Each week we have an assignment. We divide the work up and each work on our assigned portions. Each week we agree on a timetable of completion and each week one member always submits their portion past the agreed upon timeline. This person does not communicate that their portion will be late and does not respond to emails asking when they will their work done. This person’s late work has caused us to rush to produce the final document every week. I am trying to communicate that this person’s late work does not give us the opportunity to create the best assignments we are capable of because we are working against the clock. The person who is blocking my goal is the woman who submits her work late, every week.
During my first semester, I was struggling with understanding a few concepts in my COMM 290 course and decided to ask help from girls that I had initially met in my learning community. While studying, we discovered common interests, and eventually developed close friendships. In fact, we planned on becoming roommates, as we noticed that we worked well together more so during the early stages of our friendship.
My goal will not change depending upon whether or not I am selected as an Instructional Specialist in School District 27J. As I was finishing up my undergraduate degree, I chose to invest my life into using education as a tool for social justice to improve the lives of students. If selected as the Instructional Specialist in Brighton, I will work diligently on ensure the districts testing run smoothly, the results are disseminated effectively, and the assessments are
Design has factored a great amount in my life. It has told me what to choose and what not to choose in clothing, grocery, and book stores. Design influences me in these places because it helps me to be aware of what I’m buying and what is physically appealing to me as a consumer. One time I was at the grocery store with my mother, and I bought 20oz Fuji water bottles for the both of us. While I was in line, waiting to pay for the water bottles, I started to think of why the company of Fuji water shaped their bottles rectangular. Was it easier to hold? Was it just a slimmer and satisfying design? Was it different tasting water? What made me buy this bottle compared to other water bottles such as Aquamarine or the Great Value brand? These were the questions that running through my head. All these questions are what company’s designers think of when trying to get consumers to buy their products.
Music has always been a big part of my life, I play five instruments decently and I love the feeling that music gives. In the past, I’ve played alongside a professional blue grass player, as well as performed in churches in the San Diego area. As I get older it’s something that I’m going to continue to pursue. Another passion of mine is serving God in preaching. As a teenager, I helped teach Sunday School classes, the eleven o’clock kid’s church, and even Vacation Bible School during the summer. My two passions in life are music and preaching, both I can see myself doing years down the line. However, both of my passions won’t provide financial security.
