The first major error, I made would probably be putting contractions in my sentences. Contractions like: I’ve, you’ve and it’s are the ones that occur most. I did not put contractions like: didn’t, wouldn’t, or can’t. Another major error, I have made in my papers is extra lines. I am not sure how I got extra lines, but I did and I will (try) not to make that mistake again. The last major error I made was asking questions. I always answered the questions, but I still asked them and that is not allowed.
Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time
One thing that still frightens me is plagiarism. I am afraid that I plagiarize without meaning to do so. I still have difficulty citing and placing punctuations in the right place. Citing work in my essay is always a stopping point for me, I tend to get stuck when, is time to cite a source within my essay. Also I have trouble citing at the end on the work cited page. The main concern for me is putting the right punctuation mark where they need to go.
3. After writing your draft, find a partner to correct your paper. Make sure when you are correcting your partner’s paper that you look for grammatical errors, digits of pi used correctly, and their ideas make sense.
For me, my biggest weakness was highlighted in the collaborative essay. I did not enjoy working with one of my partners and just found the entire ordeal upsetting. I also found the prompt my group chose confusing, and thus it took me a bit to get my start. This involved a lot of writing and rewriting. I ended up choosing to just work through it though, and correct some of my partner’s mistakes. I was not happy with the outcome though, and just wish to forget about it. That paper, in general, does not well reflect me or my writing style. It did reinforce my desire to work alone though.
Making sure your sentences are correct and error free is the most critical process in writing. Great ways to make sure your paper is solid is to re-read your essay. Having another set of eyes work on your essay is also a great way to find easily overlooked errors. The quickly fixed and missed errors add up, and end up costing you. While proofreading search for certain things in punctuation such as run-on sentences. Scan the essay for weak words such as good, a lot, things, and very. Proofreading my paper benefits me on everything I write. Employers might overlook resumes, when potential employees have constant errors on their application.
Error is something that is prominent in our daily lives. It is a natural occurrence from which we as humans tend to learn from. When the question of error in writing is provoked, things are not as simple given the fact that the, “Lack of clarity about errors contradicts what is perhaps the most common belief about error in writing, namely, that errors are simply “wrong”(Lu & Horner 189). Min-Zhan Lu and Bruce Horner are English professors at the University of Louisville, who are also co-authors of Writing Conventions. In this textbook, Lu and Horner define error from many different perspectives.Throughout the chapter pertaining to error, there is supporting evidence to back up each position on what the definition of error is. In the writing,
The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph.
These errors have weakened my writing and have drawn away attention from my content. I need to pay close attention in the future to these reoccurring mistakes. I have also learnt in this course that long paragraphs concerning one topic should be reviewed, and I should create a backwards outline so that I am able to break them down into several smaller paragraphs with different focal points. I have learnt how important grammar and organization is in my work and that I should not only pay attention to the content, which I have done previously. Grammar can change the whole meaning and understanding of a piece of writing, now I am well aware of this and hope to improve this throughout the rest of the course.
It was very to easy to have small mistakes in my paper. I use a couple grammar check websites to help me find any errors in my summary paper. I know that I have bad grammar so I use
It is with hope that I do not make those mistakes in my own writing going forward as my mind is always distracted and general requires a lot of efforts to focus, fortunately the student guide is a excellent writing companion as it will always remind us of the value and advantages of proper planning
Oftentimes it is difficult to discern the errors within your own work due to misconceptions or flaws in thinking. Within my Textual Analysis paper the main difficulty was a difference between the definition of rhetorical analysis from previous learning. In an attempt to fix it I tried to add some clarity to the meaning behind the points I made because they were unclear and not fully developed.
As I look back on my writing portfolio, I realize in all my first drafts I make numerous mistakes. I would like to believe that my errors became more complex mistakes but I know one of my consistent mistakes is with indefinite and definite articles. With the first couple of letters I had very few definite articles and by the end I had too many. However, I do think that as my writings progressed I tried to write about more complexly. I feel more confident in my writing since I have had to continually practice. Overall, I believe because I tried to write with more complex Arabic grammar, I had more mistakes from my attempts. Yet I am glad I tried to use difficult grammar because it has taught me how to correctly phrase sentences in Arabic.
My first paper on taking on-line classes what was consistent was the paper was not “scrubbed” that well. After seeing the mistakes pointed out I wanted to kick myself in the butt because I knew these mistakes were not acceptable, but I submitted the paper anyways. To my defense, when I read my own work I
There is such a thing as the “Grammar Police” and they’re out there. The Internet is a harsh mistress and it’s users are often unforgiving of grammar mistakes. If you use “your” where you should be using “you’re” or “their” instead of “there,” you can bet someone is going to call you out on it in the comments.
You're not just looking for errors that you recognize; you're also learning to recognize and correct new errors. This is where handbooks and dictionaries come in. Keep the ones you find helpful close at hand as you proofread.
