The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph. In all honesty, I really did not know what run on sentences were until my professor pointed them out to me in my
When one enrolls into an honors or advanced English class, there are many worries that come to mind. These worries create thoughts such as ‘Am I a good writer?’, ‘Will I pass?’, or ‘How do I even start a paper?’. My teachers never specifically taught me to write. My teacher that I had for 9th grade English and my 10th grade honors English class always gave good grades. Once I got into my first AP English class, I felt as though my writing was inferior. In my distress, I went to the internet and I found that you do not have to be gifted in academic writing to get good grades on your essays, I found that organization is the key to writing a powerful essay.
Unfortunately, I would not be making it to your America history 102 class today, due to some unexpected family situation. Hopefully by next week class I will be somewhat caught up. Also, I recently had a situation with my midterm essay, I spend almost two to three hours typing the essay at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (TTC) in the computer center and when I was about to be finished, I assumed I saved the paper so I exit it out and after my wellness class I had gone back to the computer center and I had noticed my midterm essay was not in my document folder. There was nothing I and the computer staff can do, so now I am currently typing a whole knew midterm essay, and since I have a horrible memory I am not sure what I wrote about the
As a Junior, in the spring semester I have grown more as a student and a global citizen. This spring semester I have gained more confidence as taking action and gain more knowledge. I have been able to take action in my community by doing a civil rights project for my AP Language and Composition class. This semester I have grown more knowledge as a student in my Digital Literacy class by creating a Fake News Essay to address how everything that is on the internet or media can be fake.
Looking back to when I typed my first AP Language and Composition paper, I can honestly say that my writing skills have drastically improved. I started off not knowing any writing strategies and thought that typing three pages was a lot for just one paper. After completing the course, I can now write a full eight paged paper using one of the three writing strategies that we learned. Before this class, I was never a skilled writer and the thought of taking APLAC intimidated me because I did not think I was capable of completing the course. I never imagined myself taking this class because In my mind I simply was not smart enough to take it. However, due to all the positive comments I received about the class and how it improved my friends writing, I
While not a hugely transformative venture, I have found this semester to be a good vehicle for making my writing more accurate to its intended purpose. Prior to taking this class I did have some experience in professional writing for a few of the jobs I've had in the past, but this class organized those thoughts, gave them name, and pointed out where and how to pursue them. Its been an enlightening experience and provided me with tools I hope to use the rest of my life.
I can still remember my heart pounding out of my chest. It was my first time in Writing 1, and my nerves were mostly the result of a friend’s advice. Winter quarter, my friend told me about her struggles in her writing class and she advised me not to take Professor Bernstein for Writing because as she said “he is really tough and a very hard grader.” However, I had no other option but to take writing with Professor Bernstein because all the other writing 1 classes conflicted with my schedule. Nevertheless, nine weeks have past since I first stepped foot in Writing 1, and I can certainly say that I have learned more than I ever expected. Yes, it is true, this class has been a challenge like no other, especially for me, being that English is
Thank you for your helping with my case. I am so glad that I don’t need to add another reading and writing class in this semester.
Freshman year English would certainly have been completely diverse without Ms. Karen Minor as my teacher. Through the thick and thin, she understood my struggles and understood how to accomplish specific assignments that for some time I did not fully comprehend. For example, she assisted me with our Personal Odyssey (Adventure) Video project; without any ideas, I personally asked her how to find a perfect event. She gladly and happily offered some ideas, asking questions about what vacation(s) I have been on recently, and she expanded the horizon even more, asking if there was a certain time I felt “at home” on a vacation. Having said this, I finally realized that there was a perfect time to use for my project. With her help, I was able to
Congratulations, You are amazing, you complete two courses. In a way, I feel like I did also, as I had to reviewed everything from English 101 in order to survive. Definitely, there was a lot of work, being able to keep us shows we have time management skills and critical thinking skills even though we pushed them to the max.
For my flagship program, I am currently placed at Lowell school which is under temporarily placed at Mount Jumbo in East Missoula. During my observation I did it on a Tuesday afternoon. When comparing my flagship school to my personal school, I attended Corvallis Elementary school in Corvallis, MT.
How do you feel learning to speak second language? How about writing? I am not just talking about writing alphabet or words, I am talking about writing a combination of words with proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, and many more with full flavor of English proficiency. Although, I was resettled to the US year after finishing my high school, I never had attended the college. Choosing COTC was my first steps to put myself in learning process. The semester was challenging for me because I was going everything new in my life. With full support from teachers and family member I was able overcome it. There are several writing skills that I learned in my previous English 91 class: from organizing idea, rough draft, brainstorming, choosing topic
To put it simply, College Prep Writing has helped me a lot. At the beginning of the semester, I wasn’t sure how much the class was going to affect my writing. Now at the end of the semester, I find myself writing better than I ever have. I have written some of the best work I have ever done in this class, all thanks to the lessons and exercises we did. Some of the lessons in class helped the exact problems I was facing in writing.
In Second Grade, I moved from Framingham to Weston and started going to Woodland School. I was a really shy and quiet kid in general, and it didn’t help that I was a new kid, too. For our ELA (English Language Arts) “class”, we sat in a circle and took turns reading passages from a book. I wasn’t a bad reader, but I was scared of having to read in front of everyone. In fact, I was so scared that whenever it was time for ELA, I would hide behind someone else so my teacher, Ms. Garcia wouldn’t call on me. When I was eventually called on (despite my best efforts), I gathered up all my courage and read the passage. I ended up reading it perfectly fine, and the experience helped me break out of my shell. After that, I stopped trying to avoid reading
Dixie: Amanda, I liked that once the sign was changed that people really helped the man out more. I totally believe that no one even read the sign before the lady changed. I think that you have a good point about stopping and think before we write something and making sure it sounds the best. I think that this class will really benefit me. What are you hoping to learn from this class?
This Dalis Hernandez, I've done a couple of observation hours in your classroom these past two semesters. For my education class we need to interview a educator that works with students with disabilities and it's only fourteen simple questions. I was wondering if you would be interested?
