I am writing to you hoping that you would be persuaded on what I am about to say. I strongly believe that you should give me extra ten points on my semester grade average. Last year, I failed English III, but this year I am planning to pass this class this time. Trust me, I am tired of this class already just all I need to do is to pass this semester and graduate for my senior year. However, I realized that if I do not pass this semester, I would have be taken this class during the summer and I’m not trying to take this class during the summer. Would be embarrassed if you had to take this class during the summer? Or being a senior and taking a junior class all over again? How would your parents feel, knowing you're failing English III again?
Education. Why is it such an easy word to understand but such a tedious task to accomplish? We come from a society that hands out education easily, however that education comes with a price. Jean Anyon explains this process through her research in From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work. Anyon dissects the socio-economic class that determines the types of instruction students receive. Through her research one can compare her findings to Mike Rose’s narrative, I Just Wanna Be Average, to be true and insightful. Rose speaks of his high school life as an underachiever as well as his ability to break free from the mold that he was once placed in. Comprehending both Anyon and Rose, I, myself, have come face to face with the
In the beginning of the semester, everyone was write down two goals that would be accomplished in the semester. Experience in writing papers showed me that I was weak in writing any type of papers. However, I was determined to stop repeating idea by rewording as well as writing information that is unnecessary. Also, I knew I had to improve on writing essays with no to very few mistakes, whether it is structurally or punctually. I am pleased with discontinuing any repetitions while writing, but am not so pleased about structuring and punctuating my sentences.
A time that I experienced failure was when i failed my Algebra II class for first semester. My biggest error was that I didn’t retake my quizzes that i failed when i had the chance too. The first 3 months i didnt really tried, I would tell myself that I had a lot of time for the semester to end. However, i regretted it when i found out that i only had a few weeks for the semester to end. I stressed out the last weeks, I couldn’t go to sleep in the night. I would keep thinking of my grade and how i was going to fail the class. I knew that colleges were gonna see my grades for this year, my junior year. I really want to go to college, I want to make my parents proud. The last weeks, i did everything that i could. I did all the missing homework, and I tried to
This year in our English 1010 class, we covered many different genres and types of writing. We covered how to write personal narratives, how to respond to other students and other forms of writing, and how to professionally write essays. Briefly, we touched down on how to write argumentatively and were also required to create an infographic, wish was probably my favorite assignment. Although I never thought of myself as a strong writer, I believe that this class has greatly improved not only my writing skills, but my thinking skills as well. This was my first English class to be taken through dual enrollment and I believe that it went quite successfully while challenging me as a writer.
As the semester comes to a close, it is always interesting to look back and reflect on the events and opportunities my English class has given me throughout my first semester as a whole. At the beginning of this semester it was evident that I was feeling uncomfortable due to the adjustment that I was going through as a student moving to college. It was very difficult expressing myself through my writing since I was nervous about good impressions and my good grade. While this class was one of the most difficult courses that I have taken this far, it has become quite evident to me that I have grown a substantial amount as a writer and as a person; Especially, when it came to explaining my ideas, writing academic essays, and making arguments.
This English Composition II class has educated me so much on how to write better, write in different formats, schedule my time better, and how to improve my writing. Learning more about all of these categories will help me in the future when I need to write other essays for future college classes that I will have. I am very happy that I took this class when I did, because of it I am more prepared for college this fall. I just hope my future professors are as funny and kind as Mr. Stout has been towards
Applying the writing skills learned in English 101, which includes determining audience and purpose, organization, and grammar and mechanic usage, is also a major goal for students in their second semester of freshman English. The ability for a writer to determine their audience and purpose is essential for all writing. In my proposal essay advocating a plan to stop texting and driving I said “As the number of collisions from cell phone related distractions rises, something must be done to significantly reduce the regularity of this event. This problem affects all age groups, sexes, and ethnicities and it is in our hands as drivers to create safer, more responsible roadways.” In these two sentences, I stated the purpose of my argument which
Before I enrolled in this Pacer English class I would generally study in my room, sitting on my bed, or I would sit at the kitchen table and study. I had a many advantages to doing this, because I would typically do it in the mornings, after my classes, when my husband was at work. I did have some disadvantages to this, because when I would sit in my bed to do my homework, I would get very restless or I would have cramps in my neck, causing me to want to quit studding for that time. When I would sit with my back against the head board and pillows all behind me I found that this made me feel more comfortable when I was sitting in my bed. The disadvantage to sitting at the kitchen table seemed more uncomfortable to me, because the chairs seemed hard after sitting there for quite some time. When I study, I try to sit for hours at a time to try and get all my work done at one time. I made sure that no matter where I was studying,
In English 9, I remember when my teacher would take attendance at the beginning, but he would ask us a certain question to get to know us. Although the questions never pertained to the lesson, it was conversation starter which allowed me to meet my peers without actually talking to them since I was new. Ultimately, I was ordained into Honors English 10, and it turns out, I knew people from my 9th grade class. If I’m being honest, I don’t like to remember 10th grade, but that teacher recommended me to take AP Lang, which then of course, turned into AP Lit. AP Lang’s collaborative work meant that it was an extremely interactive class. It felt like a family because we definitely got to work with everyone at least once. Each class encouraged me
The course definitely changed the way I approached writing a paper. One day in lecture you quoted Ernest Hemmingway saying, “The first draft of anything is shit.” This changed the way I approached and wrote papers. I used to start papers the night before, barely look over them and making few changes. This course encouraged me to outline, write a rough draft and constantly review then finalization the paper. Peer review before this class I though was pointless because most student hardly pay attention to the paper and usually wrote “good job.” The students in the class actually read my paper and gave honest feedback and ways to improve it. Also to have a teacher read your draft and give feedback with what is wrong and ways to help the quality of the paper helped greatly. This English class was definitely different than high school English.
What makes the Senior Class of 2016 different from any other class to graduate from Lenape? All the drive this graduating class ever needs is the wish to impact the world in some way. That goal has driven us all this far and will continue to drive us to the destination we dream of and desire. We all wish to succeed, but sometimes you must fail a few times and learn from your failure. The failures will only make the final success seem greater. The graduating class stands out because despite our failures, we all still have the dreams we will someday reach no matter what obstacles life throws at us all we will ever need is our future goals and dreams.
I am writing to you in hopes that I can persuade you to give me ten extra points on my
It really discouraged me and i think if you just give me this booster itll motivae me to better not only in English but all my other classes too. Increasing my semester average by ten points will benefit the both of us. I will have reached my goals and continue to maintain a high GPA , while you look good to all the other teachers in the English Department. I believe I have worked hard enough for this ten point booster, and I hope you think about how doing one good deed to help one of you student soar will benefit you in the long
I am writing to you in hopes that you will add an extra ten points to my semester grade. I strongly believe that I deserve these extra points, for putting my hard work and effort into this first semester. With all the different assignments and short amount of time you have given my classmates and I, most of us tend to or try to turn it in on time maybe a little later depending on the assign work.
I am writing to you in hopes that I might persuade you to observe deeply into the importance of increasing my semester grade average with ten extra points. For most students it is difficult to become the author, but for me I create exceptional essay’s.There are ways for students to surge their grades, yet many seize those opportunities. After all we do work industrious all school year; maintaining all those quizzes, test, and exams.
