Throughout my degree I have taken subjects that provide various strategies for developing engaging learning for diverse classes. While my year 9 English class was organised based on grading and performance of students all other classes were of mixed ability, interest and learning styles. Within my observation week I took note of the teaching styles that were primarily used; year 11 Standard were primarily learning through presentations and note taking, while year 9 English worked well through discussion and sharing of information. Other things I noted was that year 7 needed primarily short activities that link but are different to engage the range of students and ensure they were taking in the appropriate information. My year 11 Drama class
In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.
In the beginning of the semester, everyone was write down two goals that would be accomplished in the semester. Experience in writing papers showed me that I was weak in writing any type of papers. However, I was determined to stop repeating idea by rewording as well as writing information that is unnecessary. Also, I knew I had to improve on writing essays with no to very few mistakes, whether it is structurally or punctually. I am pleased with discontinuing any repetitions while writing, but am not so pleased about structuring and punctuating my sentences.
This year in our English 1010 class, we covered many different genres and types of writing. We covered how to write personal narratives, how to respond to other students and other forms of writing, and how to professionally write essays. Briefly, we touched down on how to write argumentatively and were also required to create an infographic, wish was probably my favorite assignment. Although I never thought of myself as a strong writer, I believe that this class has greatly improved not only my writing skills, but my thinking skills as well. This was my first English class to be taken through dual enrollment and I believe that it went quite successfully while challenging me as a writer.
As the semester comes to a close, it is always interesting to look back and reflect on the events and opportunities my English class has given me throughout my first semester as a whole. At the beginning of this semester it was evident that I was feeling uncomfortable due to the adjustment that I was going through as a student moving to college. It was very difficult expressing myself through my writing since I was nervous about good impressions and my good grade. While this class was one of the most difficult courses that I have taken this far, it has become quite evident to me that I have grown a substantial amount as a writer and as a person; Especially, when it came to explaining my ideas, writing academic essays, and making arguments.
You can find out what learner style each learner is by conducting a simple test in the form of a handout, count the ticks in each column and it will give a rough idea of the best way they learn. You will need to make sure each lesson is delivered to facilitate each of the learner styles so each learner is catered for, so progressive leaning takes place which is being professional incorporating equality and diversity. Different resources what are available can be used to deliver the lesson to engage learners and make their learning experience one that they remember and learn from.
265). Incorporating how students would like to receive instruction matched to their learning styles and strengths will increase student motivation to succeed. It is important for me as the teacher to know what instructional strategies work with each student. When students are presented with information in a manner they feel comfortable with they will be less likely to misbehave during class time.
I learned many new things from English 1102 class. It was not much fun but I learned some interesting things. For my research, I needed a topic that interests me. I first started to search topics from the chemistry field. I could not find any interesting topics then I came across an article that talks about how robots will take our jobs and every one would be jobless. After reading that article, I was really convinced that robots were bad for human society and people should be focusing on improving other fields such as medicine than wasting time and money in inventing a robot, which is one type of luxury and that, will take our jobs. So I chose this topic for my research. For further discussions, I started searching for some more article about robots not good for human society and I found that there was not much about the negative impact of robots in human society other than taking human jobs. So I was stuck but then I found an article that supports the robots. It was a good article and it explains how robots are useful in human society. The Article says that robots will create new jobs and benefit employers, government and disable people. I also found in one article saying that if robots will do our jobs humans can focus on bigger problems like finding cures for diseases, finding solution to prevent natural disasters and many more. Therefore, I decided to support the robot’s positive impact rather than supporting
WRD 103: With a very busy theatre class schedule I was limited to which teachers I could choose from, and was left to about two. I put both teachers names in Rate my Professor, the magical site that lets you know about the experiences other students had with almost any teacher at your desired university. Michael Moore had significantly higher ratings, and he had comments that said how he was an amazing teacher and really wants students to learn. After reading this I told my fellow students that I found a good teacher in a time slot that worked and we put the class into our course cart. I never realized that this small choice of deciding who was going to be my professor for English would influence my life so heavily. This class has given me so many new experiences and has offered me so much. From finding a new outlook for a news source, to how I should write, to even learning more about myself through simple conversation. I can’t
In order to effectively teach students with different learning styles, I will most likely be using this website for ideas. Education.com has everything. They tell you how to know what styles your children are better with and give you some activities that you can use to reach all of those students. On their site, you can find specific activities for any grade, or subject, up through high school. For example, I will be teaching third grade so I would go and look under third grade and then go under whatever subject I need, such as math. Once there, I just scroll through and pick an activity that allows student to interact with each other while practicing the subject and having fun. I can also use
Students have their own best way in effectively learning the lesson. With the diversity of students, the problem is each student has a preferred learning style. It becomes undeniably one of the reasons that make it difficult to achieve the best expected outcome out of teachers’ effort. However, teachers try to incorporate various teaching techniques to make every learning opportunity become productive, meaningful, and relevant for the learners.
It is practical to assume that students will do better in tasks that reflect their particular style of learning, so knowledge of students’ learning styles, including a variety of tasks will make teaching more inclusive. A learning style questionnaire could be handed out at the start of a course which, once completed will inform the teacher about the learning styles of the students.
Learning styles is one of the ways schools have changed over the past couple of years in regards to diversity. The varieties of learning styles of students have become more
Let’s begin with my Psychology class. In my psychology class, the teacher, Mr. Adkison uses a variety of teaching styles depending on the material. I would have to say out of all of them the one that is most used is a lecture or verbal with group discussions. This is also one of my strongest teaching styles due to the fact that it is more interactive and allows the class as a whole to discuss what we went over that day. My style of learning lines up with his method of teaching. When listening to his lectures, and looking at the pictures, graphs, etc. it allows me to make connections
Lack of information such as students learning styles poses challenges for teachers to engage students.
Most likely my classroom is going to consist of very diverse learners and this will definitely affect the dynamics of my classroom. Some of the challenges with a diverse classroom are the fact that there are so many different multiple intelligences, creating activities that appeal to all students is very difficult, and the fact that it may be hard to remember all of the accommodations for each student in the class who has an Individual Education Plan (IEP). There are many opportunities available for having a diverse classroom as well. For instance, it will allow me to have a wider variety of activities to help keep the students (and myself) engaged, the likelihood of having a boring classroom is diminished, and it gives me the opportunity to learn more about my students and to learn about new and different activities available that other teachers have shared. With this being said, there are many different activities I can use to appeal to the range of multiple intelligences and the variety of learning styles. After researching some different activities, I found the following to have the most potential for me as an 8th grade teacher. First of all, I like the idea of using a questionnaire at the beginning of the school year where the students answer questions about themselves to determine their own learning styles, etc. I think it is important for students to know the best ways they learn so they can study in that fashion. Some students may just feel that they are on
