Have you ever been so frustrated writing an essay that you set it aside until the last minute? Well, there can be a way to prevent that. One of the most important parts about writing is the process behind it. An essay should consist of an introduction, a body and a conclusion. Even though the process of writing essays seem very mind boggling, it is actually an easy process if following the correct writing steps. After they have figured out the audience, next they must determine their essays purpose. Do they want to persuade their reader? Is the writer writing an essay to explain an idea or issue or are they analyzing a piece of art? Before they begin writing, they should find interesting facts or views on their topic. Asking friends, relatives, or classmates is a great place to start. From there they can begin reading about their topic. All of the information they have gathered will help them generate ideas for their essay, including: clear details, experiences and creative explanations. Depending on how they learn, they may be an “idea mapping” organizer or a “formal outlining” organizer. Idea mapping is a more visual way of creating an outline for an essay, it is when they take their main idea and branch off it with their basic ideas and further branch off with more information. They next main of outlining is the formal outline. This is when a hierarchy of roman numerals, letters and numbers is created to list their main details. Next to the roman numerals they list their main ideas, and next to the letters they list examples and other information to help support what they wrote. In the revising phase, the writer replaces weak or vague words that they may have used in the first draft with stronger, clearer words. At this point they may come up with new paragraphs, improve their thesis, reorganize, add important examples and self experience, or even move sentence around to make the essay flow better. By examining the ideas in the essays Freewriting by Peter Elbow and The Makers Eye: Revising your own manuscripts by Donald Murray. One can gain a better understanding of the process of turning a piece of writing from an inspiration into a craft. By examining the elements lined out in each essay can be beneficial in creating a piece of writing that is beyond a college or student level. Elbows essay lines out the importance of a strong prewriting regimen. That editing too early can ruin writing. He believes that by using the method of free writing, it can inspire ideas that may be limited when worrying about grammar. While Murray emphasizes the necessity to create many drafts to form writing into its full potential. Saying each draft is an opportunity to discover what the author has to say and they the best way to say it. By transforming writing into its maximum potential it goes from being an idea an inspiration a masterpiece.
Personally, from the class of English 1101, I have learned on how to use the writing processes effectively, where the first step is to have a pre-write, which focuses on brainstorming ideas form either the group or from individuals’ brain for the required topic. The second phase of the process is the thesis statement, which is the primary idea of the entire essay. I discovered that the thesis statement should be persuasive and truthful. The third step is on developing drafts, where it showed me on how to focus on content, organization, and style. Again, I noted that I must ask myself who is my audience, and what do they want or need to hear.

I have always had a trouble in writing and after taking this GSW course I feel much more confident in my writing abilities and have learned many skills that I will always be able to use in my writing. I feel that over the course of this writing class that I have learned a lot of useful information and have grown as a writer. I have learned many skills that have improved my writing from the sources I use to the styles I write into using visuals in my papers. I have also improved my writing process. I go through many more steps to make sure my writing is to its best. I use more than just myself in my writing process I use others to help me and give me feedback on how I can improve even more on my writing. I have made a huge change in my writing
Finding your own writing process is crucial for a writer in order to write a successful paper. Everyone is unique and everyone’s writing process is going to be unique as well. A writer’s notebook is a perfect way for people to record random thoughts, dialogue you hear, and any other ideas you might hear. Brainstorming is a key technique to get started when composing a paper. Brainstorming allows you to think of different topics that would fulfill the requirements needed on your topic assigned. Freewriting, clustering, listing and outlining, and collaborating are also some other techniques that when practiced could come very useful when writing a paper. Having the ability to use either of these five techniques would help tremendously when composing a paper.
Students are assigned a variety of writing tasks throughout college. Whether it is an assignment in an orientation class or a term paper, students will need to include information from scholarly peers to help prove their point and make a credible stance. Thankfully students can include data from scholarly articles as long as they give proper credit to the author(s) from whom they received the information. Among the many issues that a student could potentially face is overusing resources. By not including enough of their thought on a subject, the work could become a collage of other writer’s work that a student merely puts his name on. To help avoid such an issue, one must remember that no more than 15% percent of a paper should include quotes
There are many components involved in the writing process that are important to incorporate in your essay to make it a strong well constructed piece. Knowledge about the writing process is needed in order to succeed. Without the proper the knowledge there will be no direction throughout the paper. There are many different ways to write, but it is necessary to include in depth research, a strong thesis that pulls your audience into the paper, and organizational skills to create a backbone for a strong complete essay.
I am going to explain what I feel when it comes to writing and what pictures represent me when it comes to the writing process. I have very mixed feelings when it comes to writing because it mostly depends on the subject that I am writing on to determine how I feel on the writing process. I feel really excited when it comes to writing because I love to express myself when writing it just makes me feel good inside. I also sometimes feel really bad when writing because sometimes l just don’t want to write about some subjects. It depends how I feel about the subject because some subjects I feel very strong about subjects and others not so much. I hate some subjects because they bore me so much that it is hard for me to write about many subjects
Every day consists of writing, whether it is informal or formal. Writing comes in different forms including, emails, essays, text messages, and even note taking in class. I have gathered materials and assignments in my major to analyze what kind of writing is required and how it should be executed. What I discovered was surprising, but almost every piece of research revealed that writing is not incredibly important in my field of study.
Writer’s Circles was first introduced my Senior English Class when we wrote our first draft of our college essays. The process begins as each student passes their writing, along with a piece of lined paper, to another fellow classmate. The classmate proceeded to read the essay
“I am not by any means a competent writer.” This was the first sentence in my introduction for my first journal assignment. However, over the last eight weeks in this course, I have proven this statement false. I now realize, that I have always been a competent writer, but I was not a confident one. Therein was the problem, my confidence level. This issue caused me to struggle and question everything in the writing process, from grammar to thesis statements. The mere idea of writing an essay sent my heart racing. But it was either write the essays or fail the course and failing simply was not an option. So, how has my writing process changed over the last eight weeks? In large part it hasn’t, my writing process has remained the same, but as
Typically, after being assigned an essay, my first step used to be sitting in front of the computer and starting to type aimlessly with no specific goal in my mind. This process usually ends up taking hours, and I do not end up accomplishing much at the end. This year, I plan to formulate a new process that will hopefully improve my writing exceptionally. Breaking down the essay writing into pieces will result in quality content. The writing process that I devised incorporates some of the basic elements of writing such as: prewriting, revising, and editing.

The reason we prewrite is to obtain a lot of raw material and write notes. This way you can come up with strategies that can assist you in writing you first draft. If you try to rush the prewriting phase and start writing too soon, it will lead to a poorly constructed paper. It will be unclear and without true facts. Your teacher will tell you what type and style of paper he or she wants you to write about. First and foremost make sure your topic is approved.
A major area for development and improvement revolves around effective note taking and essay planning/writing. As a Higher Education student you will be required to plan and produce countless essays in relation to the course you are studying, and a key point of reference to help with this would come from “The Guide to Learning and Study Skills for Higher Education and at Work” who give the following advice and tips: ‘Identify the purpose of the essay and who the audience (reader) is and what is required for both – structure your work and develop your arguments/main points – proof read your work and improve language, spelling, punctuation, grammar and style – review what you did and use feedback to improve your essay writing for the future’ (Bingham, R. and Drew, S. 2012 The guide to learning and study skills: For higher Education and at work).
