3.1 Explain why it is important to work in partnership with others.
It is important that you work in partnership with all of the people surrounding the individuals that you are supporting, in order to ensure the best possible support and care are provided. This will include Carers, Families, Advocates and other people who are sometimes called “Significant Others”. In order to work well in partnership, there has to be good communication therefore you will need to have good communication skills. Skills and approaches you will need for resolving conflicts are managing your stress levels, remaining calm in all situations, being aware of both verbal and non-verbal communication, by making sure you do not use any jargon and talking so everyone involved can understand you. Make sure you control your emotions and behaviour towards others, as aggressive behaviour can be intimidating. Avoid threatening others, pay attention to the feelings being expressed as well as the spoken words. Respect the differences of the individual, develop a readiness to forgive and forget. Have the ability to compromise, try and find a way to resolve the situation. Try to avoid making assumptions and accusations, as this can make the situation much worse. You must try not to over generalise and stick to the facts of what went on. Active listening plays a big part in trying to resolve conflict, as the person will feel that you are paying attention to them.
3.4 Explain when and how to access support and advice about:
Partnership working – You will need to seek advice and support when there is a dilemma that you need help in solving. Support and advice can come from your colleagues, your supervisor/manager, external agencies i.e. Care Quality Commission, Social Services, Unions i.e. Trade Union. Carer’s Organisations such like the Health Care Professionals Council, Workforce Development Council and Sector Skills Council for Care.
Resolving conflict – You
Being able to communicate with various different people is vital when working in the care industry. Communication between the service users and staff is the most obvious and important. However, communication has to take place between staff and the family of the service users. This is because having a bond with the family as well as the child allows both participants to feel more comfortable in the environment and ensures the family that their child is in a good place. It is also crucial that colleagues are able to communicate at a sufficient standard as well. The reason for this is that when working with people who need care can be very stressful at times, therefore not getting along with a colleague may cause more stress within the care setting.
Effective partnership amongst care home workers and other professions such as health care workers relies on a recognition that all parties care about the same goal: that of promoting the health of the service user.
It is essential that you work in partnership with all of the people surrounding the individuals you are supporting in order to ensure the best possible support and care is provided. This will include carers, families, CMHP's and other people who are play an important role in a persons well being. In order to work well in partnership, there has to be good, honest and open communication.
1.2 my job role as a care home manage, it is important to have good communication skills to develop positive relationships and share information with people using services. I also need to be able to communicate well with client’s families, carers, colleagues and other professionals as mentioned in 1.1.
The care staff face many challenges even though they know just about everything about the individual; the carers still deal with many situations. It’s of importance that families and other health professionals develop a professional working relationship with carers because the carers are the one who are more involve with the individuals and supporting them as well as knowing the individual everyday activities.
A meeting with all involved parties to discuss the issue is also another good way to resolve conflict. Everyone will have a chance to speak; this is a good opportunity to hear all sides of the story and gain a full understanding of the conflict.
In order to resolve a conflict i would show I was using careful listening skills and have a calm tactful approach towards that person that offers a compromise that both sides can accept.
The features of effective partnership working are to ensure there is good communication between all parties that ensure a high standard of care is delivered to the individual involved at all times. It ensures each party is covering all area’s and that all needs are met and that all partys have a good knowledge of who is delivering what to the individual and the contacts they have if other issues may arise and the access they have to these.
It is very important that you work in partnership with your colleagues and all other people. This will include carers, families, advocates, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, other health professionals, social workers, voluntary organisations and other people.
2.3 You can show how and when to seek advice about communication if you feel unsure about something, maybe a physical incident may have taken place which worried you, maybe something was thrown at you. Sometimes complex cases need extra assistance and help can be sought by talking to your peers, line managers, the individuals carer. A line manager or supervisor can help advise on specialist organisations who offer expert advice and services, as it is best not to think or second guess that you can manage the situation by yourself especially if you do not have the necessary skill set to deal with certain communication problems. Professional duty to ensure individuals receive the very best care and support is essential to provide the best service you can for them.
Partnership is driven by a desire for collaborative advantage and can offer many positive outcomes, like benefits for staff and services such as less replication between different service providers. It helps them see others point of view and it keeps them from being selfish, it helps young people interact with others to achieve a goal, and it helps them develop socially. It’s important to work in partnership with others so that all agencies can share information and concerns about children and young people in their care, it also helps to keep the children safe and away from harm.
When you are supporting a person within the care setting it is important to use a variety of advocacy models, these can include, myself as a peer advocate, this is where I have acted on behalf of person within the home whilst supporting them with a G.P visit or district nurse visit, there is also a self-advocacy this is where the person will respond to the question asked themselves but could need some support or advice when acting in their best interests. There is group-advocacy this is where we carry out a care plan review and involve all parties which include the person themselves, family members and key members of staff. We also involve professional advocates in the home when required to act in the best interest of a person, this has been
Partnership is when two or more organisations work together, showing cooperation and collaboration. This can provide better care and support for service users. For example, different funds working together, instead of working individually and stressing. Another example, a social worker and the health visitor will need to work together, share ideas and use different skills to develop a support plan that will benefit children and families. This also promotes multi-disciplinary working. Partnership thus can reduce conflicts and enhance team working skills as professionals can work together, sharing responsibilities and ensuring need led approaches are met and set. This can be done by reviewing care plans and offering support.
Partnership working is when different services and professionals work together with other teams of people to meet the needs of children, young people and their families. It brings together professionals to contribute their own specialist knowledge and skills. This way holistic approach to childcare is achieved as featured in Every Child Matters Framework.
