Medical tourism is trending as time goes on and as the population increase throughout the world. Medical tourism is a concept where individuals from their native countries visit foreign countries to receive the medical attention they need that is not available in their native country (CDC, 2016). This is further divided into outbound and inbound, inbound refers to the patients coming to the country and outbound refers to the individuals leaving the country (Horowitz et al, 2007). First world countries tend to hold most medical tourism out of all the other countries due to the perception of better medical care but it comes at a very high cost thus developing countries are building state of the art medical facilities to attract the attention of international patients. Countries such as Canada, USA, Singapore, Dubai etc. rake in most of the medical tourism in the world (Franzblau et al, 2013). However with developing countries making power plays, synergistic factors regarding medical tourism are changing at a very fast pace, some factors include low-cost treatment, quicker surgical periods, a boost in the economy, increase hospital revenue and enhance efficiency with fewer regulations (Pashley H.S, 2012). Conversely, some tensions that arise with medical tourism are the possibility of illegal procedures, consumerism of health care, lack of medical records, and Black market organ (Pashley H.S, 2012). Canada plays a very crucial part in medical tourism, both positive and negative; hence, this stakeholder analysis will focus on Patients, Medical Facilities and Medical Tourism Operators that play a major role in the success of medical tourism. For Argument Medical tourism is seen to be a new concept, however, individuals in the 18th and 19th centuries people traveled far and wide to reach clinics and physicians, the only difference in current times is the distance of travel. Medical tourism has many benefits that affect patients, physicians, hospitals, and the government, these benefits include low-cost treatment, quicker surgical periods, a boost in the economy, increase hospital revenue and enhance efficiency with fewer regulations. With progressive upgrades in developing countries, medical tourism is becoming

Traditionally, it is custom that patients to travel to the provider. Although it is possible to create an establishment for patients to visit providers, Mullin & Stenger (2013), advise patients choose home care in which the provider travels to them. According to Buchan, Couper, Tangcharoensathien, Thepannya, Jaskiewicz, Perfilieva, & Dolea (2013), the World Health Organization provides favorable recommendations to procure health care professionals into the rural environment. These recommendations include providing further education opportunities, improved living conditions, career development programs, incentives such as public recognition, and a safe and supportive work environment. Another essential recommendation is to implement jobs for multiple scopes of practices and varieties of health care workers. It is important that health care providers have the support of a multidisciplinary work staff to implement safe and efficient
Globalization in healthcare is a topic that has been the subject of many debates worldwide. While practically the entire world is becoming a global village due to globalization, the healthcare industry was considered to be invulnerable to this trend. This was attributed to the fact that healthcare is a service industry, where service is delivered on area of purchase. However many developments not only in the healthcare industry but in the entire economical sphere as a whole have seen the aspects of globalization. As a result globalization in the healthcare industry is a common phenomenon in the contemporary world. As the healthcare industry across global boundaries becomes increasingly intertwined,
The United States has the most expensive health care system in the world. It dates all the way back to World War II. The United States and Canada do not even compare to each other, in health care, like they once did. The problem lies within the major stakeholders of the health care system, and what they are willing to change to make it less expensive for patients. This paper will discuss the history, compare and contrast United States health care system to Canada, how the stake holders’ role affect these rising costs and it will discuss recommendations suggested by the authors of “Redefining Health Care.”
I have been to the hospital so many times that I’ve lost count. I have broken bones, torn muscles and had to have surgery. There are 3 levels of Healthcare, Primary - General practitioner - the first organisation people would usually go to, Secondary - organisations where you have to be referred to by a GP before going - specialist, and then there is the hospital. The Australian health system is used by all types of people - Australian citizens to tourists and even asylum seekers. According to the World Health Organization, a health system is 'all the activities whose primary purpose is to promote, restore and/or maintain health'. Further, a good health system 'delivers quality services to all people, when and where they need them'. In 2011-12, health spending in Australia was estimated to be $140.2 billion. The amount was around 1.7 times as high as in 2001-02, with health expenditure growing faster than population growth. Almost 70% of total health expenditure was funded by governments. The rest was paid for by patients, private health insurers and insurances. Why would we need to travel overseas if we have what we need
A recent survey determined that the average American consumer can guess the price of a new car within that margin of $1000. On the other hand, the same consumers were asked to estimate the cost of a four day hospital stay, on average their estimates were off by over $12,000 (Herrick, 2007). Furthermore, 68 percent of consumers surveyed who had recent medical care actually did not know the cost until the actual bill arrived and another 11 percent never learned of the actual cost of care (Herrick, 2007). The international healthcare market often openly post medical procedure pricing so savvy consumers may compare prices. Additionally, providers that do not offer fixed prices are willing to provide reasonable quotes. As a result of these practices, overseas medical centers are able to draw in large numbers of medical tourists who seek out the best value of treatment.

Healthcare in these countries are affected by differences in universal coverage, gender and
The travel nursing industry has been on the upswing for 30 years. Through this three-decade old history, it 's had more ups than downs when it comes to supply and demand. Hospitals and clinics across the country are guaranteed to experience staff shortages from time to time. In addition, many hospitals are being forced to adapt hiring policies to secure higher nurse to patient ratios. Along with the creation of vendor management systems, travel nursing has been a healthy business far and wide. Through the late 80 's, the travel nursing machine experienced its peak with close to 10,000 nurses available. Today, there are 20,000+ registered travel nurses that form part of a $2 billion dollar industry, along with countless staff recruitment agencies sharing in the pie. As of April 2006, there are around 5000 travel nurse openings available; a significant upward climb from the 2500 spots available three years ago. This speaks volumes over the potential of the healthcare travel industry in the future. Travel nursing allows experienced and honed nurses to practice their craft caring for patients while exploring different parts of the country while collecting a salary up to 20% higher than a standard nurse. As aforementioned, the industry has had more ups than downs. Currently, the travel nursing industry is experiencing an up-swing, with experts predicting a high rate of growth for nursing positions in the next decade. According to the latest statistics, there will be a 29%
The Cuban NHS is one of the most successful health care systems in the world as it provides quality health care to country that is relatively poor compared to other countries in the region. The lack of funding and resources creates disparities in care in terms of access to health care facilities, especially the lack of tertiary health care in the country, as well as limiting sources such as hospital equipment and medication in the country. The unequal state of health care services create a disparity because the health care experienced in various facilities are different as some facilities are in worse condition compared to others. This problem is further highlighted by the medical tourism in the country as facilities that are meant
Roxana Segovia Professor Sharifian Govt-2305-73432 July 26, 2017 14th Amendment The United States is known as the country of the free but, some do not know that it is also know as a birth tourist country. 1 According to Matt Sheehan, from the the HuffPost at, Born in the USA: 2 Why Chinese ‘Birth Tourism’ Is Booming in California; 3 “These businesses have clustered in California, a top tourism destination that also boasts large Chinese-American communities that make many expectant mothers feel at home.” As stated above Chinese are in majority the ones practicing birth tourism. As Matt Sheehan stated in the HuffPost; “These parents prefer to come to the United Stated and have their children here because, they want to have a 2nd child and avoid paying a $40,000 fine.” As with other situations there are always pros and cons to laws. As we can see the birth tourism is rising and not only that the parents are staying. Matt Sheehan, from the HuffPost quoted, from Feree from an email sent to TheWorldPost; 4 “One of the key problems with birth tourism is that that birth tourists are effectively taking control over U.S. 5 immigration and citizenship policy by turning a grant of temporary admission into a permanent stay.” This act can be seen from different points of views because, it can be interrupted as a pro/con. How can it be a pro? Many of these people come to these countries not only to have a child but also to be prosper they bring all their talent and money to invest here yet, they are treated as criminals for not returning to the country that does not allow them to have a second child. As stated above the answer can be contradicting but realistic since most of these people do pay taxes. Why a con? Some do not stay with the most pleasant goals and, eventually take advantage of the health system and any other agency that can give them anything for free. They just want a way out of the way they were living in their relative countries.
Medical tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global healthcare) is a term initially coined by travel agencies and the mass media to describe the rapidly-growing practice of travelling across international borders to obtain health care. It also refers pejoratively to the practice of healthcare providers travelling internationally to deliver healthcare.

An important factor to consider when talking about low- and middle-income countries is that these regions are predominantly rural. As a consequence, transportation to the hospital may be at a great extent a barrier to care. However, for those patients who manage to access the surgery, they would commonly encounter lengthy queues, overcrowding, poor facilities and shortage of trained personnel. [2]
