(1)Most people think college football players just party all year long. Most people think being college football players is easy and all fun and games but it is not. Playing college football is very challenging and it takes a lot of hard work. You need to be committed and dedicated 100% that is why some college football players today give up they were not cut to do all the work. Playing college football requires training 24/7. You have practice every day long and hard. Even in the off season there is still a lot of work to be done so basically football is a all year round thing You also have to be able to be great in the classroom. Some coaches even make a player keep a certain GPA just so the can play on Saturday. Only about 3-4% of high school players can get the opportunity to play D1 college football that is why coaches only look for the best that is why you have to be good athletically and good academically. Some couches wont even give you an offer if you your Grade point Average is not up to pair with their expectations. They usually want a 3.0 or higher Gpa. Usually the team works out before the head out to practice because practice carries out longer then the workouts. During workouts
Before high school athletes totally rule out trying to play sports in college they need to consider the similarity and differences between high school and college sports. As young children, most high school athletes started out dreaming about being a sports star and making it into the professional. If these dreams are given up because college sports seem out of reach or too difficult, they will never know where they could have ended up. College sports can seem like a big step from high school sports but in the end they have many similarities.
Other colleges will take a lower grade point average but none of them will go below a 2.5gpa. Colleges also look at high school kids ACT’s that they take to see how well they place on them. So Academic Excellence in football is a must have for each player and thus gets rid of the old day dumb jock idea that was widely popular in the earlier years of football. “Each year, the NCAA publicly announces the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions, along with a similar Division II Academic Success Rate. According to the most recent Graduation Success Rate data, 82 percent of Division I freshmen scholarship student-athletes who entered college in 2004 graduated. The graduation-rate data are based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education.” (Graduation Success Rate) For many kids a scholarship is the only way they have to be able to attend college either because their parents don’t have the money for it or else the college they are wanting is so high in tuition fees etc. that they just can’t afford it especially if it’s an out of state college. In state colleges normally run no more than about seven thousand dollars a year depending on where the individual lives. Out of state colleges can charge a student up to twenty-five thousand dollars a
If you have the right equipment, you can easily meet the standards of a college athlete. To become a college athlete, however, there are more aspects of the college world to think about, and there are certainly more requirements. As a good student-athlete, you must always be conscious of your attitude and behavior; there are many responsibilities that come with representing your school and community, but being a college athletes have many perks that others students don 't.
I’ve never been much of a writer, don’t get me wrong I don’t hate writing; I have just never excelled at it. Originally when were given this assignment I thought it would be simple, I already had an idea of what I wanted to write about, but like always I knew I would struggle with finding the right words to use in order to actually write the story. Although I knew what I wanted to write about I still wasn’t completely sure if I wanted to write about this topic, not only because of the challenges it would present but because It was going to be a story about a real friend of mine. The story was going to be about the life of an illegal immigrant who like many others had the dream of becoming a professional football player.
Unmistakably, college football players endure many hardships and make many sacrifices in order to attain the skill set required compete at the highest levels of college football. Only through many hours of focused training can an athlete build the necessary tools to be offered a scholarship by a Division
What comes to mind when you think of a college football player? They were the best one their team in high school. They are headed toward the National Football League. They must have worked really hard in high school to be where they are. High school football is easy, because if you are good then you have so much more fun playing the game. In high school, there is homecoming, powderpuff, and senior night that gives everyone something to remember. College football there’s about one hundred players that are just as good or better than you so that brings in the competition. Although college football is harder than high school football, there is more competition, intensity, and rigorous plays; high school football is more enjoyable.
College football also negatively affected the athletes between 1890 and 1930. With the extreme development of competitive college football, college athletes started their career as early as secondary school. So, instead of focusing on school work and applications for future colleges, these athletes would make sure they were the best at the sport even before they entered into college. Once the athletes entered into college, they had a hard time balancing schoolwork with athletics because in the previous years they were so focused on getting better at football. As said in the preface of the Carnegie bulletin, “No college boy training for a major team can have much time for thought or study” (Savage et. al. xiv). Also,
They need to make sure that they give enough attention to sports as well as academics, they also need to work hard to manage their time to be able to do both. In addition, student- athletes need to be dedicated to do both because they are held to a higher standard to where they are expected to be able to be both. In other words, schools should have athletes with a 2.5 GPA or higher to be able to play because it shows they want to play and they are willing to make the effort to keep up their
As I said, football players risk injury, “ Football players are nearly seven times more likely to be injured during a game than in practice”(Burris 1). Some of the injuries they may fall to are concussions. It is known that “Concussions make up 7.4 percent of all injuries in college football players” (Burris 1). Many of the football injuries can affect their lives forever. “The athletes also reported more limitations in daily activities and more major and chronic injuries” (Burris 1).
Many problems going around about college sports and colleges athletes. Most colleges all over the nation allow the college to have sports but then there are some that don't. Being in a sport in college is just like basically having a job. You would need to be dedicated to this and not have much time for anything else. Practices can last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours a day just for one thing. Kind of crazy to think about something like this. Many people just simply don't have the time to do sports in college because they have a real job outside of school. This is different compared to high school because you would have time then and now you don't have much time for anything else at all. There are college athletes basically everywhere you go. Whether they play for universities or juts community colleges, it's all the same thing. The only big difference about this is the price differences. Universities are much more expensive then when playing for a community college so that's why people get scholarships.
College athletes are pretty much working. they have to prates all season like track you have to prates fall, winter, and spring. For all sport in college you have to fly to all the state and know one will come if they don't have the athletes.
Physical and mental strength plays a major role in a football player’s life. Football is a twelve month process, which consists of off- season (six months), in -season (five months), and the Transition (one month). During off-season the football player’s main goal is gaining strength, size, and much power, in-season they continue to practice and work on maintaining the gains in strength during the off-season, and the transition is when they rest and recuperate their body from the physical exercise. Football players are constantly bumped and knocked down during practices
Furthermore, athletes who play at the college level work out constantly. All college competitors have been focused and experienced in their sport for quite a long time. Also, the commitment level has intensified in college sports. Playing a sport in college is a year round commitment, not a seasonal one. The sport consumes you and becomes your everyday life. If you are looking to have fun and work out here and there, a serious college sport might not be the route to go. Lastly, all college athletes must be able to balance academics and their sport. This requires a certain amount of maturity, experience, strength training, and commitment. All and all, stepping up to a college level sport after playing in high school is quite a leap. You have to be completely ready to do nothing else but that sport and maintain your
Not only do they work during their particular season, they also work in the off season. Most professional athletes train on their own striving to become better. They also attend miniature camps and their seasonal
Going into my freshman year I thought I knew what football was all about, boy was I wrong. I thought hard work was lifting a little, running a little, and doing some plays. In high-school we started speed training at six in the morning for two hours and then lifted for two hours after speed training, the older kids would go back in the evening to lift some more. I did not understand why they did extra work until they won state that year.
