Whether it is a group of high school students or an entire country, when in times of trouble, a sinister person can rise to power. Adolf Hitler, the well known Chancellor of Germany during World War II, and Regina George, the fictional Queen Bee from the movie Mean Girls, used similar tactics as a way to retain control. Although Adolf Hitler caused much more damage to the people he ruled over, Regina George and Adolf Hitler used tyrannical leadership tactics, the exile of innocent groups of people, and social status to control large populations. Adolf Hitler and Regina George similarly used oppressive and domineering strategies to gain popularity and relinquished any resistance. George used her socioeconomic status and charisma to become the …show more content…
Her mother desperately wanted to retain her youthfulness and, as a result, allowed Regina and her friends to have total control over her house (Mean Girls). Freedom was highly sought after by teenagers at North Shore High School, so the casual attitude Regina’s mother had toward underage drinking and sex caused Regina’s friend group to grow rapidly (Mean Girls). After George gained popularity, she controlled who was popular and who was less socially desirable. Hitler gained popularity in post-World War I Germany in the same way. Utilizing his superior speech delivering skills and the rapidly decaying German economy, he persuaded the entire German population that he was their saving grace. Germany’s economic situation plummeted after World War I because of the reparations the country paid, along with the disarmament of its military and cease on all military production (Garrison). Germany was desperate for help, …show more content…
Regina ostracized the less attractive and wealthy and almost immediately, everyone else agreed with her ruling. She had no other reason to exile these people than to gain popularity. Everyone simply accepted her judgements on other people because she was popular. Hitler arguably had more substance behind his anti-Semitic views. Anti-Semitism grew in popularity in Germany after many people blamed the Jews for the loss of World War I, so hating the Jewish people was not a new concept Hitler invented (Voigtländer). He did, however, utilize the anti-Semitic views already instilled in the German people to commit one of the largest mass genocides in the history of mankind. Both George and Hitler possessed masterful leadership qualities, though George had a more difficult task of controlling everyone at the high school. George had to create a reputation for herself before her opinion mattered to anyone. Hitler, on the other hand, used a previously instilled viewpoint of his constituents in order to gain the country’s
Finally, many purely hated Jews because they were not Aryan. Germany was one of these countries. Hitler, the leader of Germany, has carried hate for the Jews since early childhood. Primarily, he blamed them for his mother’s death along with him not getting into his dream school, Vienna Art College. Also, they were blamed by Germany for defeat in WWI and as the cause for unemployment. However, mainly Jews were persecuted because of the way they looked. At the time, Hitler wanted a racially pure Germany. He believed that by adapting the Darwin theory of survival of the fittest, he would be able to create a stronger generation and kill those that are impure or disabled.
In examining Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters, comedy is used to allow people to see the true thoughts of characters in a humorous way. Mean Girls uses elements of farce comedy, therefore, it is primarily aimed at creating explosive laughter through the insults or injuries of characters in the plot to enable viewers to comprehend the true emotions that the characters express towards other characters and themselves (Johnson, Arp 1297). This method of comedy is useful when a director of a film wants to add more depth to the characteristics of the antagonist. Elements of farce are used with the antagonist, Regina, to show the audience what type of person she is. She believes that she is better than all other students in the high school, and she shows this by making fun of people with her use of vile comments and making people believe that they are beneath her. An example of this is when Karen suggests that they go to Taco Bell and Regina says “God Karen, you’re so stupid!” (Waters). Although this is a crude statement, it is said in a way that brings humor to the viewers, but also allows them to feel a minor sense of hatred towards Regina. Another point where viewers notice Regina’s vulgar, but humorous words is when she writes dreadful words in the burn book and attaches her own picture. Her words provide humor to the viewers but, when she
Hitler had shown unwillingness to tolerate the Jews and once he was appointed Chancellor, he started to take elimination measures like deportation, forced emigration, and isolation to enforce his belief. He took advantage of Germany’s weakness in World War One, then used it as an opportunity to blame the Jews for Germany’s defeat. Hitler’s political party was the largest political party in Germany thus allowing them to draw very large crowds to gatherings. He had very good oratory speeches with hand gestures that easily manipulated people to adhere to his views. Hitler constantly targeted the Jews because he knew people believed in these speeches. People in Germany were already anti-semitic but Hitler made it worse by constantly consuming them in his speeches. From the way he spoke about the Jews, we could clearly see the possibility of genocide. Hitler wanted Germany to be free of any humans that anyone other than his ideal master race so he personally selected bodyguards to be part of a group called the SS. Hitler was responsible for ordering the SS to carry out the extermination of anyone who did not fit this ideal. The SS handled oppositions using force and as a result of which people were forced to give into the idea of violence. Sometimes people purposely went along with this Holocaust ideal due to the fear of getting killed. These terrors allowed the holocaust occur
In order to gain full control of the country they had to remove or eliminate their political rivals. Hitler used excuses to blame and imprison his political rivals. One good example would be when he used the Reichstag fire as an excuse to imprison many communist leaders, which stopped them from campaigning during the election so that he could win more seats and power. He also used fear and terror by creating a group known as S.S or Black
Throughout all the worlds significant and powerful leaders, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini were two men that similarly abused their powers in ways never seen before.
One extremely comparable aspect of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini’s reign was their rise to power. Both Mussolini and Hitler used misleading tactics like manipulation and propaganda to increase their followers and seize the country's power. Mussolini and Hitler would often use the public's struggle and misfortune to their advantage. Since followers believed the empty promises that the leaders would advertise, they would sign up to take a position in terrorizing individuals who opposed the movements. Mussolini would appoint his “blackshirts” the job of campaigning while Hitler would use his Nazi followers to do the job. Often, people who opposed their ideas through media would be found and murdered as
Adolf Hitler is nearly without a doubt the best example of using power to persuade citizens. His views about so-called “racial purification” were certainly not shared by all Germans, but somehow Germany carried out over 11 million murders of those deemed racially inferior by officials. 11 million people were murdered in the holocaust, and little to no effort was made to stop it by German citizens. They decided to follow their leader, even down a less than moral path. Author Erik Larson records in his nonfiction
Mean girls is b stereotypical movie about drama and mean girls in high school. Almost all events and characters are common things that can be seen throughout films based on high school. In almost all, there is always some type of popular, cruel, girl that everyone is jealous of, and in this, her name is Regina George. The popular girl often gets everything she wants, boys, popularity, and money. Regina also has two “friends” Karen and Gretchen who both seem to despise her rude behaviour. Some movies with similar characters are The Hot Chick and The DUFF. All three have popular mean girls who end up in b position where they don’t get their perfect life. Another stereotype in this movie is the new girl. In this case, Cady
Mean Girls is a critically acclaimed movie known for its benevolent satire that circulates around the reality and cruelty of high school life featuring social status, class, gender and race in today’s society.
The ridiculous rules that her “groupies” follow, to the fashion trends she sets accidently. It shows that in high school girls will do mostly anything to “fit in” or be apart of that popular group, in this film, the plastics. Unlike Hitler, Regina was very fortunate growing up so that only leads viewers to believe everyone wanted to be like her. Like Hitler, she used manipulative behavior to gain followers; for example, a scene shows Regina and a following classmate conversing in the hallway about her skirt, after the classmate walks away Regina states that she thought it was actually ugly. I believe Regina acts the way she does, because early on in the movie, Gretchen states that “...her parents totally don’t sleep in the same bed if that’s what you mean.” although her life looks picture perfect, there are still issues with her home life. Once in control whether it is a school or club, the person is most likely to stay in charge, unless something drastic happens to the one in control, or a rise in people against their beliefs pushing for a change. Although Hitler was in need to control the entire country, Regina only controlled a small group but with the same
Mean girls is a very influential movie in America and the majority of people have either watched it or know what it entails. Many people see this movie as a funny satirical and exaggerated take on American high school but in reality it has a much deeper meaning to it. The movie revolves around a transfer student ,Cady, who had grown up in Africa and was home schooled her entire life. It shows her pretending to be friends with the popular group “The Plastics” so that she can find out their secrets and report back to her other, less popular friends. However, in the end she becomes sucked into the group and starts to treat everyone else in the same horrible ways The Plastics do.
Adolf Hitler. When a person hears his name, not many good things will come to their head. However Hitler did possess one amazing quality that led to him be one of the most powerful men on earth: the ability to influence others through his rhetoric. Hitler used his speaking ability to take over a country in their time of need and lead them to infamy. The ways Hitler did this was by connecting with his audience, flamboyant motions, variation in pitch, using his charisma, and working his audience up before giving a speech.
No matter what millennium, century, or decade one looks at, one will be able to find at least one person with evil intentions for the world. These evil intentions may at first not be seen as evil intentions, but instead they may seem as if they are great ideas for the countries future. This was the case for Adolf Hitler who took advantage of his countries economical depression to rise to power. Leaders such as King Richard III have always had evil intentions because King Richard III wanted to take over the thrown by any means necessary. King Richard III and Adolf Hitler are two very similar leaders who ascended to the top of their respected countries.
How Macbeth and Hitler got into power was similar. The Witches prophesied that Macbeth would be king, and he wanted the power and respect it would bring him. Macbeth murdered the king, so that he would be crowned king. Then he hired people to murder his good friend Banquo, because the witches also said Banquo’s children would be king. After this happens Macbeth turns completely evil, his hunger for power and greed, greater than his conscience. Hitler is worse, as it doesn’t appear that he ever had a conscience. Hitler won the role of Chancellor in 1933, which was second
Adolf Hitler became the model candidate. He was charismatic, nationalistic, and a great orator. He was just what Germany was looking for. He, along with many other critics, believed the Jews were the cause for the insurmountable amount of debts ran up during WWI, and that Germany needed to become “purified” with strictly Germans. And this kind of ideology inspired the rise of dominance that Germans would possess over German Jews comes in the later years. As soon as he was elected Chancellor of Germany, Hitler was transferred all power and his word became law. This showed that, Hitler wanted to assert himself over all citizens, and that no one could size him up. He also, later on, showed this by murdering over 6 million Jews from countries ranging from Western Poland, Belgium, and
