In my previous place of employment there was pretty significant changes taking place. A long term care unit was transitioning into a sub acute rehabilitation unit. The workers on this unit were unhappy about the changes and management was not discussing with them the reasons behind it and the upcoming changes. As a unit coordinator I was able to apply what I have learned in this program about most care transitioning into the community rather than the hospital. Through studies in this program we have learned that more individuals will be seeking care in the community and the care provided in the community will be more acute. When I described this to the employees they seemed more receptive to the changes. As time passed we began to see more acute patients entering our …show more content…
Some of these competencies are only acquired through specific professional experiences. Due to my lack of experience as a nurse and nurse leader I do have some weaknesses in terms of business skills and knowledge of the acute side of healthcare. Business skills are learned primarily through administrative positions. I can also see my resilience can get in the way, I can be very stubborn. It boils down to not wanting to give up or failure, but I need to overcome that perspective. Many times in nursing, the outcome you initially want is not what you will get. I have been learning that as long as you know and did everything to the best of your ability is sometimes all you can do for your patient. Since I know my own weaknesses and what I need to improve on I feel that I could assume a leadership
Nursing has always been a popular career, and nurses work in a variety of settings. Most nurses have a bachelor's degree, but many nurses also have a master's degree. Nurses have several responsibilities. When you become a nurse, you are responsible for your patient's well-being and safety. You will have to care for chronically ill patients. Nurses work in a variety of health care settings.
I already knew that Nursing is a health care profession that involves taking care of another person in which a person needs the formal education and training in the art of science of nursing. Nurses help individuals, families, and groups to achieve health and prevent diseases, and they care for the sick and injured using procedures based on
I think nursing not only includes taking care of patients and helping out the doctors. I believe that there is some art to nursing as well, other than all the education and science involved of course. I believe that that caring is the essence of nursing, and that it should be viewed by the nurses as their moral ideal of preserving human dignity. This is to be done by helping the patients in finding some deeper meaning to their illnesses and suffering so that they are able to understand themselves better and are able to restore and promote their personal harmony and balance between the mind, body, and soul. Thus, I
Nursing – Nursing is a service to humanity intended to relief pain and suffering for those individuals who need healthcare. In beginning we need to understand “What is nursing” in general? As defined by the ANA: Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.
My personal definition of nursing would be getting your patient to the highest level of health you can in your time with them while incorporating their family, environment, and beliefs/culture with a high level of critical thinking at all times. The American Nursing Association defines it as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (ANA, 2012). The quality of nursing care can be the difference in life and death. Nurses provide the backbone of care to the patients’ and serve as the main
Nursing is a well-respected and fulfilling career that I am thankful to have chosen. Nurses provide care in a respectful, caring and compassionate way. My personal goal as a nurse is to give the best medical care possible while honoring my patient’s race, religious and cultural beliefs. We must respect others without prejudice or personal bias. Nurse’s must show compassion and understanding at all times.
“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” (Angelou). A career the world literally can’t live without. The world needs these reliable, loving, skilled, and dedicated individuals. On average they attend to twenty people a day all with different health problems. Hospitals, home care, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, and many more places depend on nurses. The nursing career field opens many doors to work. Depending on what career chosen they all come with different requirements. Some careers might require more or less education than others and a variety of skills could be along with on the job training. Nursing takes someone who is truly dedicated to their job. Nurses always need to look for a way to comfort someone and have compassion for helping others. They should have patients and the desire to better others.
The purpose of this research by Sanderson, Kearney, Kissell, & Salisbury (2016) was to evaluate the use of video-recorded clinical practice effectiveness in providing feedback to students and instructors. The first objective was to assess dental hygiene students’ ability to self-assess correctly. The second objective was to determine how effective clinical instructors graded students in real time. Self-evaluation is a critical element in the dental hygiene profession, because it allows for successful growth and development.
Nurses provide excellent patient care, teach patients about health conditions, and give advice and support to patients and their families. Nurses have a variety of duties. They must monitor and record patient symptoms, take vital signs, watch patients diet and physical activity, supervise less skilled nurses, and order and interpret tests to access the condition of the patient. Nursing can be a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful job. However, to other nurses: nursing can be a difficult, tiring, and stressful job. Any job can be tough but nursing is emotionally and physically draining on a person. Nursing can be such a burdensome and demanding job sometimes because of the long hours, the exam to become a nurse, and dealing with other people.
Imagine seeing a family member with a chronic disease and incapable of helping them because of lack of medical knowledge. Becoming a nurse can be the best option to be able to not have to deal with not knowing how to help someone who is sick. Nursing is defined as a "profession that assumes responsibility for the continuous care of the sick, injured, the disabled, and the dying. Nursing is also responsible for encouraging the health of individuals, families, and communities in medical and community settings" (D 'Antonio). Nursing is the type of health profession that centers around individuals, families, and communities to ensure their health.
Nursing can be defined as the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities. Nurses are more commonly known for the prevention of illness and injury, relief from suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response. But imagine what this world would be like if nurses were not known for that instead they were just random women who one day decided to be nurses. At one time nursing was like that, but as time went on nursing changed for the better and became what it is today.
I like how you link evidence based practice to critical appraisal, it brought a new way of understanding the evidence practice to me. Critical appraisal enables the researcher to identify the documents that have reliable and unbiased evidence and whose proposed action or change will lead to the desired goals. Great
The three things I found most important and exciting that I have learned over this course are developmental domains, the NAEYC, and the project approach. I will utilize my knowledge of the three developmental domains in my classroom (both current and future) by assessing my students and creating an action plan to see that they are developing in each of their domains. With my new knowledge of the project approach I will establish this as a practice for my classroom by introducing the project approach and project based learning techniques. Lastly, the NAEYC’s website will provide me with priceless amounts of resources and tools to make my teaching experience knowledgeable and effective. My career goal has been to further advance
When some think of a nurse, they tend to think about someone darting back and forth across a hospital - caring for those who are sick or injured. After all, isn’t that how the Webster 's dictionary defines it as, “a person trained to care for the sick or infirm.” However, a nurse is more than that. A nurse is a compassionate professional who assists in various medical environments with patients ranging from prior to birth through death. Individuals who are nurses, tend to be motivated, strong, compassionate, and determined to succeed. A nurse 's work to feel rewarded, not only for themselves, but all the patients they are able to help. Yes, nursing can be a demanding career, taking on life threatening responsibilities a doctor can not afford time for. On the other hand, it is a career that is very rewarding for those who truly desire to be in the field.
