This was her only reason, or so she thought. Amy Thornton–Kelly explains the many reasons why homeschooling is the best decision she has made. First, she explains that once her husband and her considered homeschooling “the floodgates opened” to the many benefits of homeschooling. It alleviates stress, allows her kids to learn in a healthier environment and allows her to teach her kids in a more profound way. The position argued is that homeschooling should be outlawed because they claim students are not getting the social interaction that they should. Their proof is the book “Revealing school.” The information is reliable coming from a book. The article was published in April of last year. It gives a lot of strong points on why homeschooling should not be allowed. They are going against what the government says making it a ethical and logical argument.

Though there are a lot of benefits and advantages to being home schooled, there are also many disadvantages. Home schooling takes a lot of time to plan, and it can be hard on the parents to balance schooling with other home duties. Though home schooling allows parents to pick the time that the schooling will take place, it is a full-time job for one parent. One major disadvantage of home schooling is that it requires the parents to pay for everything with their own finances, this can cause financial pressure on the family. Only one parent would be able to have a full time job and they will have to pay for books and other reading material with their own money. Even if they choose to have a teacher come into their home to do the schooling, it would still require them to pay him/her for their services.

Have you ever done something so controversial that it brought extreme criticism to you? This is what happened to David Mills. In “Homeschooling’s Liberalism” by David Mills, we read a story about Mills personal experience when he tells people his children are homeschooled. The story he tells us is more about their reactions and why he feels justified in homeschooling his children, rather than how Mills homeschools his own children. Mills stands by his decision to homeschool his children for several reasons, among them; his belief that the school system isn’t doing the best they can in terms of education. This story is actually eye opening and doesn’t make the idea of homeschooling as crazy as I used to think it was.

Public schooling in the United States fails in providing a quality education for student in K-12. In 2015 the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), which measures reading ability and math and science literacy among 15-year-olds in dozens of developed and developing countries, found that the United States is ranked 35th in math and 27th in science Desilver, D. (2016). The number one thing every parent wants for their children is for them to have access to the best possible education available. As a result of a low quality public education, parents are progressively looking for alternative ways of schooling. In particular, some parents have decided that homeschooling would better prepare their children in life. This paper will analyze both the pros and cons of homeschooling.

An article from 2015 about homeschooling and public school stated that “it’s estimated that as many as 2 million American students are being educated at home.” There are several families that would prefer homeschooling over public school for several reasons, which will be discussed in this essay. The two topics that will be discussed are homeschooling and public school. There will be multiple topics discussed in this essay, such as pros and cons of homeschooling and public schooling, and which option would be the best option for certain types of families and students. These two topics will be contrasted by explaining which topic would be the better option for specific groups of people, and certain families. The purpose of this essay is to describe the advantages and disadvantages of home and public schooling. Also, the purpose of this essay to show statistics about which system of education would be best for certain families, specifically those who are low-income families, and want the best option for their children. Whereas public schooling is inexpensive and gives children a chance to make friends, homeschooling is the best option because it gives children a safe, and more compatible learning environment.

For the first 230 years of our history, parents, not the government, were in charge. Competence in reading, writing, and arithmetic was nearly universal at the time of the American Revolution. But by the mid-nineteenth century, a band of reformers led by Horace Mann of Massachusetts replaced our founding, free-market education system with a system of state-run education, with compulsory attendance and standardized curriculum. While the public education continues to downplay homeschooling, home educators continue to flourish in many ways by performing academically and becoming professionals in their field of study. The reasons parents chose to homeschool for religious reasons, low standard in public schools, academic advancement, and a safer environment. From my own experience with homeschooling, its beneficial for a variety of reasons. One reason would be one on one teaching according to the child’s learning style. There are a few options parents have when deciding where their children will go to school. One of those options is homeschooling. While there are many stereotypes about children who are homeschooled, such as being socially awkward, not having any friends, missing out on “real world” experiences, being able to do whatever they want, just to name a few, you will learn that they are just that. Homeschooled children have many of the same experiences and opportunities as those who attend public and private school.

B. Preview – Traditional homeschooling can be problematic to a student’s life skills and overall development. The social learning aspect of school, which is lacking in homeschool, directly transfers into college and the workplace. Most teenagers and kids need to be supervised at every moment or else they will not do their work and, while at home, it is hard to find the motivation to do schoolwork.

In the ten-year period from 2003 to 2012, the number of American children 5 through 17 years old who were being home schooled by their parents climbed by 61.8 percent. There has been drastic increases in home education over the last several years. It is estimated that a total of 2 million students (2.3%) are home schooled in the U.S today. This begs the question, why home school?

Surprisingly, there are a variety of people that do homeschooling. Both people from high-income to low-income families. There are parents that even have doctorates or even a diploma in a general subject. Families with either one or two parents and differing ethnics and religious or secular inducement choose to homeschool (Ray 2002). Researchers come to the conclusion that homeschoolers, for the most part, have free reign when it comes to their homework and school pace that they feel that suits them the best.
