1. Question 1: The classification of this executive order, whether it is a refugee ban, Muslim ban, or immigrant ban, why is it important for our political principles? Which groups of people cannot be banned from any kind of government services or benefits?
Everyone has something to fear. In this case President Trump fears that refugees are attempting to gain entry to the United States for the sole purpose of attacking. Some of these refugees have been in the process of obtaining their visa’s for as long as ten years. They’re being denied entry at the gates and being sent back. Trump goes as far as to include children in the list of potentially dangerous and they too are being denied entry. The White House is simply assuming that every individual

There has always been constant dispute over the boundaries that the federal government and state government hold. Considering that some states do indeed house more refugees than others, I must say I believe states should have some input into such a policy. Those states will end up suffering an offset with the economy on top of the already existent economic difference. Consumerism may go down and that in turn affects supply and demand. In other terms, I would have to answer the same thing again. It’s important we have a balance of power to keep both the federal government and state government in check. Each has the right to sue one another if it is believed that they are exceeding their power, but it also can’t be one sided. Federal government will always for the most part overrule state and that needs to be more balanced. Though it does help to have the judiciary branch as a mediator of the sorts, states need more say and more rights. Sometimes there will be a state law that is contradicted by the federal government and vice versa, but which one is right to follow and abide by? Why are state laws allowed despite potentially being culpable with the federal government? This is where it seems a bit one sided to me and it pushes me towards supporting more power to the
After having a very successful performance and getting second place on the first Littlefield simulation game we knew what we needed to do to win the second simulation game. We were very eager to outperform our competition and we almost did so, but ended up in second place again with a cash balance of $2,660,393.
A Federal Judge temporarily barred Trump’s Executive Order concerning the travel ban. This has caused extreme controversy among American’s as topics such as immigration, refugees, vetting, and religion all take tolls on the perspectives of the media as well as the average American. Nevertheless, the travel ban has been critiqued as well as praised by different groups and the Federal’s Judge’s emergency order has sparked debate on the constitutionality of the order.
In attempts to protect the United States from foreign terrorists, President Trump has banned seven different countries from any access into the country for ninety days. The seven countries included in the Travel Ban are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen (Jackson). As for Syria, Trump has placed a ban that has an undetermined length of time. Another aspect of the ban is, “The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama” (BBC). This order not only drastically affects the amount of immigrants entering the country, but also the number of refugees.
Much like many white people in the South believed black protestors had no right to infiltrate their cities in the 1960s, a large number of Americans are against the idea of letting refugees or anyone that follows a strongly stereotyped religion into their country. However, like King says, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (78). Over the course of history, the United States have established themselves as a major power with the intentions of helping others. Whether the tactics for this have actually been successful in the past is a different discussion, but if the motives are pure, then this country has a moral and ethical obligation to help those in need. In this case, that would mean allowing these refugees into the country and not continuing to stigmatize an entire group of people any further. This country turned away refugees during World War II, and a portion of them were killed in the Holocaust. The exact same thing could potentially happen if these refugees and muslims are banned from traveling into the United States.
These people cannot go back home because they fear something bad is going to happen again, their only choice is to flee to another country and start a new life, but not many countries let most refugees in due to their religion or race, and the United States is one of them. For example, in the many articles that I have read in my English Humanity class, there's an article from Donald Trump, where he says: “We cannot let them into this country, period. Our country has tremendous problems. We can’t have another problem.” And this is one of our candidates running for president talking about the refugees in this type of way, saying that they will cause more problems, due to the fact that they are dangerous. But not every refugee is dangerous, especially the ones that come from Syria at this time due to the Syrian war. Some just tend to be traumatized and exposed to violence and war, and all they learn is to fight back and take care of themselves, and in a document I read coming from the book Outcasts United by Warren St. John, it says that a mentally disturbed Sudanese man, beheaded his five year old nephew with a butcher knife, and family members say that this act was due to the fact that he had
Met with mass protest and public outrage, the original travel ban was an executive order issued on January 27,2017. The ban rolled out an elaborate scheme said to protect the American people and “Make America Great Again”. The ban set a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted into the USA during 2017. It also included a temporary ban on Syrian refugees as well as people arriving from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations. After being found in violation Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965 due to its discriminatory nature, the order is now back and has been redrafted.
On 27 January President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting all refugee admissions and temporarily barring people from seven Muslim-majority countries. This action is called “Travel Ban.” What does it do? It brings in a suspension of the US Refugee Admissions Programme for 120 days. There is also an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees. And anyone arriving from seven Muslim-majority countries - Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, also faces a 90-day visa suspension. Some visa categories, such as diplomats and the UN, are not included in the suspension. The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama Priority will be given to religious
President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, now an Executive order, has been the topic of controversy since the order was signed on January 27th, 2017 (BBC.com). An improved order was again signed on March 6, 2017 (BBC.com). However, a case in the Supreme Court of USA will determine the future of the ban, which runs between October 2nd and December 21st (BBC.com). The first executive order banned people from seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya from entering the United States for a period of 90 days. It also put a halt on refugee resettlement for 120 days and banned Syrian refugees permanently (Park). However, as per the revised executive order issued on March 6th, Iraq was removed from the list and the
The 2016 presidential campaign, was wrought with several controversial issues, none more so than the refugee crisis. Throughout the campaign, Donald Trump’s Anti-Muslim rhetoric, appeared to go against the American ideals of protecting religious freedoms. This trend continued into his presidency, he enacted Executive Order 13769 “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States”, banning immigrants and refugees from seven predominately Muslim countries. While, the President claims these measures were taken to prevent any future terrorist attacks on the United States, many question if the Order has more to do with instilling a ban on Islam. Yet, with the possibility of terrorists entering the United States, how can we
This legislation does not only affect illegal immigrants and the local communities in the border states that aliens are placed into, but also the citizens of the United States and Mexico. The executive order will further prevent the entrance of illegal immigrants into the United States more efficiently with Trump’s
On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that suspended entry of all refugees into the United States for one-hundred and twenty days. The order obstructed Syrian refugees for an unspecific time and blocked entry into the United States for ninety days for citizens of seven Muslim countries, such as: Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Yemen. This order also banned green card holder from these seven countries.
In general, according to IRS, there are no tax deductions that might ease the pain of divorce. However, even though it has no sympathy for the legal fees incurred by a couple who split, a husband and wife might be able to salvage a deduction for the portion of expenses in some circumstances such as tax advice in connection with a divorce, as well as legal fees to obtain taxable alimony. This research paper is going to explore these questions more deeply by examining the provided situation of Bill and Hillary.
Imagine being a parent at an airport waiting to go see your kids but then all of the sudden you can't pass through the gates, why? Well, because the current president Donald Trump banned 7 nations from entering the United States. What do you do now? That's how frustrated and disappointed people were at the airports when the ban took action on Friday, January 27th. It was unaccounted so people were not aware of it although, it was expected to occur anytime soon. He believes the United States would be a better place without those nations so, therefore, he felt the need to ban refugees from entering the United States. It all might sound scary but as he was running for candidacy many people were aware of how everything could be changed
As many people know since Trump claimed the president's seat in 2016 there has been a multitude of problems with his presidency. One problem that has arose is that he is taking benefits from foreign countries without the consent of congress. In Article I of the Constitution there is clause about Foreign Emoluments (Emoluments Clause) where it says that “ No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States; And no person holding an office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.” The constitutional problem that has arose is that there has been three different occasions where President Trump has been known to break the rules of this clause. He has taken 40 trademarks for his company from China, housed foreign diplomats in his hotels, and foreign officials have rented out his property.
Over 300,000 refugees are waiting at the borders of our country waiting to be accepted into our country. My question is why. Why would our great country want to weaken ourselves by letting illnesses and terrorism into our country, especially when they did not help us in the past? The United States should not accept refugees because of many reasons including terrorism, stealing jobs from U.S citizens and bringing sickness and unknown illnesses into our country. Hundreds and hundreds of terrorist attacks have occurred in our country the only blameable menace are us letting in refugees in. Thousands of refugees are working immediately, and illnesses are spreading to Americans in our country as soon as these refugees enter our country. Knowing all of these issues is it really worth letting them in?
