Pholx noctunix grows in the tundra ecosystem. The only biotic factor that impacts Pholx noctunix is the caterpillars that like to feed on its leaves, this has caused it to adapt by developing thorns along the stem to prevent caterpillars from being able to reach the leaves. The majority of the factors that affect plants that grow in the tundra are abiotic, including: • Fluctuating temperatures, with an average winter temperature of -34˚C and average summer temperatures of between 3-12˚C (Ucmp.berkeley.edu, 2004). • Fluctuating light intensity. During winter, a layer of snow covers the ground, causing less light to reaches the plants. During summer, there is a large amount of sunlight reaching the plants. • Nutrient-poor soil. The soil of the …show more content…

Photoperiodism is the effect of the relative lengths of light and dark periods on plant growth. This occurs when photoreceptor proteins e.g phytochromes are produced by plants in response to light intensity or the absence of light. This in effect affects the height of plants. [5]
Plants are found everywhere on earth, up high on the ridge and down low in caves and caverns. The types of plants that live in these places depends on many factors. These factors are separated into two different categories, the biotic factors and the abiotic factors. Some of the biotic factors include, predation, competition, and habitat destruction. Plants with limited competition and large amounts of resources will be in a higher abundance than plants with limited resources and higher competition rates will be confined to areas and either out competed or will be the dominant species. Certain plants adapt to these factors and thrive and others don’t do as well. Some of the abiotic factors include, sunlight, water, temperature, and wind. These
Plant life tends to be of low growth and, during the short summer, the birds arrive in large numbers to feed on the insects that are born in this period. The climate is cold summers and very cold winters characterize the tundra area in the northern most limit plant growth. Areas
the summer are about 94 degrees while lowers down to 37 degrees in the winter. Today, the
Temperatures can vary widely between regions (such as the mountains and valleys), and between seasons.
“Dormancy is a period in an organism's life cycle when growth, development, and (in animals) physical activity are temporarily stopped” (“Dormancy”). Some native plants have learned to adapt to grow a mixture of both short and long roots, so they can absorb moisture from both depths. After the winter season, the deeper roots reach down to absorb the water that has soaked into the deeper ground. Once the water lower in the ground has been absorbed into the tree, the plant uses its shallow roots to begin absorbing the moisture at the surface (Schwinning, Susan. “Sensitivity”). Exotic plants in a new area can cause irregular forest fires, floods, and other unwanted natural disturbances. To prevent these disturbances from occurring, Exotic Plant Management teams are trying to remove unnecessary plants that are only hurting the soil. The Exotic Plants team gives the people taking care of the plants two recommendations. First, they recommended to not worry as much about the bigger exotic plants and try to eliminate the weeds and exotic grasses. Second, is to put as much effort into restoring the native plants that are struggling through the droughts (Daw). Cold season shrubs are one of the few native plants that were not affected by the change in the climate
Weather - The average temperature's range from 40° in the winter to 76° in the summer.
Past studies show that when different temperatures are applied to a variety of different light intensities, the plants observed experience changes in the length of the roots, the protein and sugar content, photosynthesis, and dissolved oxygen. The Cells were illuminated at the desired light intensity for various durations (Haim et al, 2013). This is similar to this study’s findings because the light intensity was switched to see the change in rate of photosynthesis within the elodea plant.
Sunlight allows heat into cold place and flowers of all colors to growth. Although flowers are remarkably beautiful, and colorful, they are ripped out of the soil to be given to whom is important. Beautiful things are given up for other beautiful things in order to appreciate the things close to each other. Flowers, like many things, need light to grow.
Plants do have similar behavior patterns to animals. They both can fight over territory, food, they can tell if they’re relatives and they both have defense mechanisms. This shows you how plants and animals have similar behaviors like how the knapweed fights for territory

Would you still choose to live in this area after a drastic shift in temperature? Give reasons to support your answer.
A plant is any of the boundless number of living beings within the biological kingdom Plantae, these species are considered of low motility since this species generally generate their own food by sunlight. They incorporate a large group of commonplace life forms including trees, forbs, bushes, grasses, vines, plants, and greeneries. In this task we are experimenting the relationship between light and plant growth by growing plants in three different lights which are red light, blue light and white light. As I stated above that plants generate their own food by sunlight. Sunlight can be broken up by a prism into respective colors of red, blue, orange, yellow, green, indigo, violet and white. All this lights have specific
This is also a defence mechanism if the plant were to become damaged by a grazing predator.
Asteraceae or Compositae Giseke (commonly referred to as daisy, aster, composite or sunflower family) is one of largest family of flowering plants in terms of numbers of currently accepted species. Most members of the family can be easily recognized according to their ‘star-like’ composite inflorescences. And there contains numerous economic plants and products for food resources, horticultural ornamentals and herbal medicine and so on, making it of great potential value in application. In addition, it is a monophyletic group and has worldwide distribution. Therefore, it attracts enormous investigations on its success of spread and following significance on ecology and evolution.
