As our firm grows in revenue and size, opening new offices in other cities, the number of our employees have grown significantly and will continue to grow along with our business. This presents a challenge in our organization to find and raise leaders as well as improve our existing leadership to be more effective. To address this issue, we need to implement a Leadership Training Program that will train, educate, and encourage our managers to be more effective leaders in their departments, which will help raise employee’s morale and productivity. This proposal will include strategies that will improve our management’s ability to communicate with our employees, and self-reflection exercises that will develop our managers personally and improve their leadership skills. Current Challenges Growing number of our employees make it difficult for our management to give enough attention and communicate thoroughly with them. The theory-based practice that I want to suggest for James is inspiration motivation which is part of the transformational theory. I have attended meetings with James and he does a good job of presenting the data and being open to the entire staff. I do not though come away from the meetings being very motivated. In past positions, I have attended I become energized and I am ready to try different ideas, revisit past ideas that we can revive to improve the company. To achieve objective one, I first learned more about the “Moving Up” program. I began attending “Moving Up” classes and participated with medical practice/ acute unit leaders. Attending these classes helped me understand the needs of departmental leadership and medical practice/ acute unit leaders. I then began doing research on how to track improvement initiatives through Press Ganey and Excel. I began designing a reporting template that incorporated all “Moving Up” graduates. The template contained graphs to assist graduates in monitoring their improvement initiatives. Once I developed the reporting template, I created a series of drafts until the report met my preceptor’s and departmental leader’s needs.

Getting To Know Yourself What is encouraged in being a good leader? After doing the exercise in the context that dealt with the study of leadership traits and characteristics that was done by Kirkpatrick and Locke, I found some of the importance of leadership traits. Knowing the importance is only one step in getting to know yourself. Its also being able to use the leadership traits in ways that make you more able to lead. Finding what it really takes to be a successful leader may be hard, but I can recall several events in my career as a manager that can make the normal leaders' head spin. Just looking back at what I have done so far as a manager makes me stop and think "what did I do to get me this far?" It
Communication is a vital key to effective and good management. Face-to-face communication is always the best way to talk to your employees but that may not always be possible, so a combination of verbal and nonverbal communication may be the best practice for your company (Chazanof, 1998). Too many companies rely solely on newsletters, bulletins, and
Leadership is defined by several principles of knowledge, applied knowledge and results. Oxford Dictionary defined leadership simply as, “the action of leading a group of people or an organization”. The Coast Guard sets a great store on the concept and application of leadership skills and practices. The LDC created the enlisted leadership continuum which brings us the Apprentice Leadership Program, Leadership and Management School, Chief Petty Officer’s Academy, Senior Enlisted Leadership Academy.
The words “leader” and “manager” have been used synonymously for decades, but the true meaning of these two words differs tremendously. The skills and traits necessary to be a great leader are not found in all managers and vice versa. Despite the difference in their meanings, the ideal leader for today’s most successful organizations need to be both a leader and a manager. To achieve this goal, corporations around the world spend billions of dollars every year on leadership development training (Bersin, 2014). The benefits of these trainings can not only be seen in their businesses, but in their personal lives as well. Applying the principles of leadership can help every person become a leader in every aspect of their life.
Leadership is not an easy task, no matter how much efforts leaders use while managing the organization, they are always faced with surprises and challenges. Therefore a leader should not work alone when facing challenges because a leader has his/her group of organization members who work together to meet the challenges and achieve organization 's goals (Higgins, 1994).
If an organization has a track record of effective responsiveness to the environment, and if it has been able to successfully change the way it operates when needed, TQM will be easier to implement. If an organization has been historically reactive and has no skill at improving its operating systems, there will be both employee skepticism and a lack of skilled change agents. If this condition prevails, a comprehensive program of management and leadership development may be instituted. A management audit is a good assessment tool to identify current levels of organizational functioning and areas in need of change. An organization should be basically healthy before beginning TQM. If it has significant problems such as a very unstable funding base, weak administrative systems, lack of managerial skill, or poor employee morale, TQM would not be appropriate.5
To make the most of leadership development, you need to plan for it carefully.
