How long can we continue using fossil fuels without detrimental effects? With every passing moment our planet is slowly becoming contaminated with the fossil fuels we use and the green house gases they emit. Not only do fossil fuels contaminate the planet we live in, but they also cannot be replenished and will run out eventually. We cannot reverse these effects, however i think there is one alternative energy source that scientists have been working on that can be incorporated to reduce the damage. The government should be utilizing solar power more often because the world needs to eradicate its dependance on fossil fuels, solar power is the most efficient renewable energy source and should be incorporated more often over fossil fuels. The first modern solar panel that was efficiently effective was accidentally built by Gerald Pearson, Calvin Fuller and Daryl Chapin who were able to construct a one that could take in six percent of direct sunlight. In todays world we already use solar power for a items as small as a calculator to extremely large power plants that can power large cities. Some watches, calculators, and certain radios are run by solar cells that will never run out of bateries making them very effective. Almost all of the worlds satelittes are run on solar power, if they werent otherwise, they would run out of power. There are large desalinization plants that use solar power in places where there is very little amounts of water. Solar powered cars should be ivestigated into more by scientists because transferring gas to solar powered cars would be extremely benificial to the environment. However, the drawback of these cars would be that they cant run on cloudy days and only can go at high speeds for a short amount of time. Therefore, solar powred cars are only used for experiments and racing now. Amazingly, the amount of enerygy that Sun shines down on the earth in one hour equates to the same amount of energy used by the worlds population in the entire year. Solar power should be used more than fossil fuels beacuse it 's clean and produces no harmful emissions. Easily renewable because it gets its energy from the
The U.S obtains more than 84% of its energy from fossil fuels including oil, coal and natural gas. This is because people rely on it to heat their homes, power industries, run vehicles, manufacturing, and provision of electricity. It is apparent that the country’s transportation industry highly depends on conventional petroleum oil, which is responsible for global warming, thus threatening economic opulence and national security. Apart from that, increasing consumption of fossil fuels have elevated health problems in the state, destroyed wild places, and polluted the environment. After conducting Environmental Impact Assessment, projections showed that the world energy consumption would increase by more than 56% between 2010 and 2040. However, fossil fuels will cater for more than 80% of the total energy used in 2040. Sadly, it will be a trajectory to alter the world’s climate, as well as, weaken the global security environment. Importantly, the rate at which the US relies on fossil fuels needs to reduce since it has adverse effects on the planet’s supplies. The society needs to realize that fossil fuels are nonrenewable, thus taking millions of years to form (Huebner, 2003). Notably, the country can reduce dependency on fossil fuels by practicing energy conservation and efficiency,
Solar energy is the most ancient kind of energy found on earth, for it is as old as the sun. "Solar" means from the sun. The earth is only one of the many planets which is bathed in the sun's overflowing energy. Every second the world receives 95.8 trillion watts of power…just think about that for a minute. Think about how much power the earth just received in the time it took you to read this sentence? It is well beyond the amount of power used in one day. It has the potential to satisfy all our energy needs forever without ever having to use the pollutive fossil fuels ever again. "The problem however, does not lie in the limited source, as do fossil fuels, but in harnessing
I personally have seen house with solar panels and also you see them on calculators. They may be expensive but I believe they are worth it for the environment. In fact according to Eric McLamb, “Solar energy is having the most immediate impact on home energy needs, and is expected to provide the energy needs for one billion people by the middle of this century”. Which can in the nearer future increase the way people get they’re energy thus decrease the consumption of oil. According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, “Solar power could provide energy for more than one billion people by 2020 and 26 percent of global energy needs by
In conclusion, using alternative energy technologies like solar power, we can have the luxurious to provide for everything from human needs to protecting the environment than why wait before it is too late. Fossil fuel not only harms the environment but also the current and future generations. Whereas, sources like solar power can save us from burning tons of coal, releasing harmful chemicals like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and prevent any kind of pollution. To sum up, large oil or energy source companies and communities must expand on the uses of renewable energy
When all of our natural fossil fuels are low or gone, solar energy will be one of the leading sources of energy that we will need in the future.
The environment is negatively affected be the burning of fossil fuels. The affects of the gases contribute to global warming, along with acid rain and polluted air. This pollution cuts short an estimated 30,000 American lives according to the Clean Air Task Force (Rich). The United States must stop using fossil fuels because the gases produce harm the environment we live causing harm to come all the citizens. “The future of energy production will
Fossil Fuels as a source of energy is limited and it contributes to so many disastrous situations including climate change and pollution. They release pollutants into the atmosphere that causes environmental problems around the world. One example of an environmental problem is using coal and there is a huge amount of it to use so therefore the world will continue to utilize coal. Every day of the year, we produce carbon dioxide that is released into the earth’s atmosphere which will stay for over a hundred years. Alternative energy that does not emit carbon dioxide into the air needs to replace the current technologies for better performance and overall better reliability. Fossil fuels are very limited, therefore making them harder to find eventually. In the Alternative Energy article it states, “Back in the 1960s, predictions that the United States would have pumped over half of its total supply of oil by the 1970 's met with stiff opposition from the energy dealers and by governments buoyed up by fuel profits. They were wrong, the U.S. is now well past its halfway point in consuming its inexpensive oil reserves.” (Alternative Energy) This quote shows that the U.S. has used up over half of their oil reserves than they have expected. This is evidence to the fact that fossil fuels are limited and the major problem is that they are
While the human race may believe its time on this planet will not to come to an end for a vast expanse of time, if humanity as a whole does not consider a change of behavior, then our end may come much soon than we expect. In this day and age, fossil fuels are a necessity to continue our day to day activity; without them we would eliminate a vast quantity of items that simplify tasks in everyday life. Although newer, more sustainable sources of generating power become more prevalent as time goes on, our society relies too much on plastics to be able to completely eliminate the consumption of fossil fuels. Much of our daily life depends on products made from fossil fuels, but fossil fuels are a finite resource and are currently burying us in pollution. However, the efficient use of renewable energy will sustain us far longer and still allow us to continue use of essential products from the remaining fossil fuels. Simply put, with the Earth’s fossil fuel reserves dwindling, we must emphasize the use of sustainable energy sources to buy the human race more time to find a suitable replacement for production of goods made from fossil fuels.
One of the greenest forms of energy developed by technology is solar energy. Generally speaking, it is the energy taken by the sun and converted into a power source that is usable in everyday life. The United States Department of Energy defines solar energy as: “Electromagnetic energy transmitted from the sun (solar radiation). The amount that reaches the earth is equal to one billionth of total solar energy generated, or the equivalent of about 420 trillion kilowatt-hours” (Department of Energy S). This energy is gained by solar panels that collect energy from the sun. Panels can be used for power in almost any structure, from a handheld calculator to solar-powered homes and cars. Solar energy is very useful, albeit that it does have negative effects. For example, you cannot use solar energy all the time. It is only available when the sun is visible from the sky, and cannot be seen at times such as in bad weather, or at night.
Did you know that the sun is one of the most key sources of renewable energy today? Solar Energy could be the answer to the world’s problems if we use it right. Solar energy is a very clean renewable source of energy, that could stop global warming. Solar energy is created from the sun’s light and heat. It has many positive aspects of usage. One of the most positive aspect of solar energy is how clean it is, it’s one hundred times better than using fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels are sources of energy that come from the fossilized remains plants and microorganisms. This type of fuel takes millions of years to produce naturally and thus, are non-renewable, and on a limited supply. The most common forms of these types of fuels are coal, oil, and natural gas. All of these forms of fuel are highly energy efficient, and so they have become the main sources of energy throughout the world. The overuse of these resources, however, has triggered a chain of events that will cause irreversible damages to the environment and climate. Upon their consumption, they release various gaseous pollutants into the atmosphere mostly in the form of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides that disturb the equilibrium of the atmosphere. These gasses become trapped in our atmosphere and cause temperatures to rise globally, which can
In recent decades, energy needs have seen unprecedented growth. Everyone is using more electricity. Currently, around 80% of the worlds’ energy consumption is supplied by fossil fuels, which include petroleum, coal, and natural gas (“Our Energy Use in Numbers”). Generally, these resources are cheap and readily available. They are arguably one of the most stable sources of energy and release high amounts of heat upon combustion, thus giving them a high calorific value (“Fossil Fuels - IER”). Unfortunately, the environmental impacts using fossil fuels are overwhelmingly negative. For example, the 900 million tons of coal burned in the US every year release nearly a trillion tons of carbon dioxide and five million tons of various nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, leading to widespread temperature increases and acid rain (“Fossil Fuels”). Often times, extraction of these resources can destroy entire ecosystems, poisoning water supplies and leaving areas uninhabitable from landscape destruction. Oil spills can leak millions of gallons of oil, devastating aquatic life for generations to come. Furthermore, this model of energy production is not at all sustainable since fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources — most researchers estimate that by the end of the 21st century, known crude oil reserves will be completely depleted, with natural gas and coal deposits following shortly thereafter (“The End of Fossil Fuels”). This will invariably lead to rising fuel and electricity
With the availability of coal, oil and natural gas more limited every day, many people are turning to the oldest and most abundant source of power on Earth -- the sun. Solar energy uses the natural energy-making process of photosynthesis for plants and offers a reliable alternative energy source for homeowners and businesses seeking a cost-effective solution to rising energy bills.
When talking about fossil fuels, it is inevitable to think about their impact on the environment. After all, “burning fossil fuels like oil and natural gas produce greenhouse gas emissions such as ozone, methane, carbon dioxide” (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, 2017), and many other substances that harm our planet and contribute to global warming. But as humans we are on an uncomfortable position, fossil fuels generate most of the energy we consume but also pollute the planet, and according to the International Energy Agency, global demand for energy is expected to increase 31 per cent by 2040 (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, 2017). In addition, “Canada's share of global greenhouse gas emissions is about two per cent” (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, 2017), which doesn’t sound as much, but still generates a negative impact on the environment. Then how can be stop using fossil fuels if the energy demand is increasing?
Solar car like similar to any other kind of having advantages and disadvantages. So it is manufactured easily and not complexly, it works silently without making any pollution or noise, and the Sun energy is free and renewable. Also the sun energy available in any country of the world. So we can benefit from it anywhere. But, on the other hand, The cells of Sun panels are too costly and the power of the solar car is less than the power of the cars which work by petrol.
