Mahatma Gandhi, the civil rights leader, once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Ever since the 1900’s, people and the world’s problems have increased since. We’ve gone from wars to assassinations, natural disasters to racism, and from more wars to even more racism. And that’s just in America. Even now, problems still exist, and continue to increase throughout the years. Many people are trying to stop some issues, however not enough people care. Due to worrying about their own safety and social status, rather than helping others that are in the midst of danger and even death. There are many changes needed in this world, but I have two matters I’d like to specifically address. In Africa, one of the biggest problem is poverty. …show more content…
What this would change is how people view and think of the homeless. Many people are often disgusted at the thought of people begging on the streets, but they don’t realize that not everyone’s life is perfect and that there may be some personal things that are preventing them from this situation. Studies show that about 3.5 million people are homeless in America, and the sad thing is that most of them are children (HomeAid). These people are also more vulnerable to becoming sick because of the surrounding they live in. That is why I want to partner with other businesses, and start a line of hotels (start with one at the beginning) that will be willing to house the homeless. At first, it may seem like any other homeless shelter. However, this is much more different for many reasons, and one of them is the fact that they will be treated with respect. I have read many articles about how the residents are abused by the employees, and I will not tolerate the workers for that kind of behavior. Another reason is the fact that they will be living there as if it were a house they personally owned (separate “hotel” rooms with bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms included, clothes offered, etc.) It will be run on mostly donations and government money, and the workers will either volunteer or be hired. The only problems with this is the fact that it will consume a
Imagine how much more empowered the worker and lower income individuals would be if they didn't have or need to fear losing everything even if they’re getting fired. The United States has a lot of money probably trillion's or more dollars, which I believe is usually spent on war or sending troops to other country's for war when they are many citizens and people in the America losing their job. I know that there are a lot of people who probably quite there job, but those are the people I'm talking about I’m talking about the ones who get lay-end off, The United States I believe has a lot of money and a lot of people wanting help special form their government most of them can’t prove for their self so they need others to help, there isn’t really a reason why we could not solve poverty and homelessness, or even care for the many mentally ill who being on the streets either because they can’t keep their jobs or because they can’t provide for themselves.
Do you think there is to little homeless shelters? People died on the streets for being to hot or too cold. Americans starve to death because living on the streets. There should be more homeless shelters in America to get people off the streets forever to help people who need it to make America a better place.
While health care in America is slowly improving, are we leaving people behind? Imagine waking up day and night with an infection that has no possibility of healing. Homeless individuals face this reality on a daily basis. For decades, America has been fighting to decrease and eventually eliminate homelessness. However, with the decline in employment opportunities and an increase in living cost, living the “American Dream” is now becoming a nightmare. Due to the rough culture of homelessness, individuals affected by homelessness cannot access medication as easily compared to the average middle-class citizen. Even with the advancement of the world’s richest country, there are still a large percentage of homeless individuals without essential necessities.
In January 2015 there were 564,708 homeless in the US. They were all sleeping in the streets, emergency shelter or transitional housing. This paper is about why and what we should and could do to help the homeless.
Unfortunately, many individuals are without homes or living in overloaded shelters. While this is an increasing problem in America, many neglect the existence of it. For the past four years in the month of November, I have spent numerous nights in a cardboard box to raise awareness for this problem. To begin, I first gather donations from locals who support me spending fifteen hours in a box in the harshening autumn weather. Then, on behalf of my local transitional living center, I donate the money I raise to them, which in return gives them enough money to keep the shelter open for at least eleven additional months.
Families live, die and are born on the streets of vast cities of United States. Less attention are shown to those who are homeless, people focus more on bigger issues when this is a major problem that has occurred for years. Statistics shows that 1.6 million youth run away from home each year between the ages of 12 and 17. The predominant race for runaways is White non-Hispanic (57%), Black non-Hispanic (17%), Hispanic (15%), and Other (11%) follow (Blaha). Homeless children most likely leave their original homes because of the way of life and the hard pressure due to their living environment and family issues. Homelessness makes children sick, wounds young children, & homeless children often struggle in school. Homeless children are in
Scholar For Caplow, defined homelessness as a practice of alienating someone from society as a result of loss of the relational bond with family, employment and home, which connects one to society (Ravenhill, 2016). Homelessness is a social issue in the United States, which does not discriminate against age, ethnicity, professional background or gender. In fact, the U.S. Census Bureau shared that there is an estimate 43.3 million people in the U.S. struggling with poverty, which means this people were experiencing homelessness and were out on the street homeless sleeping or in a transitional housing program or shelter (National Health Care for the Homeless Council, 2016). This has been an issue for a long time in our country, and it is still
There are 7.125 billion people in the world. 3.25 million of those people live in the United States and 564,708 of those people are homeless. They live on the streets and disturb the peace by asking for food or money as people rush through the city. A simple solution to the homeless problem in America is to make them live in landfills. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. has 3,091 active landfills and over 10,000 old municipal landfills and this would be more than enough space for the homeless, but will there be enough trash for them? The average human throws away 4.5 pounds of trash every day. Each human will produce enough garbage for every homeless person.
An assessment of human history will portray the fact that a significant portion of the human population has always lived in unbearable conditions. In particular, it would seem that in first world countries that those that live in such conditions would have the appropriate means to secure an alternative to their plight. Regrettably, there are millions of people that have little choice but to sleep on the streets of cities, under bridges, and in subways. These citizens are homeless. Homelessness is a stark contrast to situations that many privileged American citizens find themselves in. Indeed, those who endure this plight on a daily basis appall many Americans. Homelessness in American society is often portrayed by the media as an individual
One of the biggest problems in America is a shortage of good jobs. No one is willing to hire a homeless person. If the government could provide jobs specifically for homeless, then it would begin the progression
Imagine if you had to come to school with the same clothes every day. Your hair not combed, teeth not brushed, and you haven’t showered in weeks. This is happening to people everyday, all around us. The poverty rate in 2014 for children under age 18 was 21.1%, which is the category that teens fall under. Teens are affected a great deal by poverty because they sometimes have to find work at a young age. They have to support their family because they are seen as an adult once they become a teen. Teens living in poverty at a young age might grow up and do bad things because they weren’t raised in a good environment.
have larger numbers of programs in place to help. Knowing this drives homeless people to
Homelessness in America has always been an issue but it has become an even bigger issue over the past years. With a world filled with global conflict, disappearing jobs, higher education cost, and increasing poverty in America, the homeless need our help more than ever. Just last year, the national poverty rate rose to include 13.2 % of the population. Also, 3.5 million people were forced to sleep in parks, shelters, under bridges or in cars. Hunger and homelessness are increasing epidemics plaguing the United States. Because of the high cost of living, high unemployment rates, and low-wage jobs, countless Americans are forced to choose between food, housing, and other expenses. According to recent studies, money
Homeless shelters do already exist in America, but most are filthy and are invaded with bedbugs and body lice. Most large homeless shelters do not have proper ventilation, causing it to get extremely hot during the summer. Even though families do stay in these shelters, it is unsafe and gross. Homeless shelters in America are mostly funded from donations, meaning that homeless shelters do not have very large funds. Therefore, homeless shelters should be funded by the government. With the proper funding, shelters could be properly built and be able to maintain cleanliness. If homeless shelters
Everyday, more than half the people in America are homeless. Some are in some type of emergency shelter, living on the streets, or transitioning from house to house. As a citizen of the United States, we need to find a way to end homelessness. We need to provide aid or employment for the homeless.
