2 PROJECT OVERVIEW
Grand wine is using a wireless device system to process customer’s orders with the help of sales representatives. There are issues in current system due to so much of manual task to be performed. The new system will be capable to resolve the issues and help the company to automate the order processing. The new system will be delivered within specified deadline of 6 months.
Project start date -05/06/2015 Project Finish date -11/30/2015
Budget- project budget is $100,000
2.1 BUSINESS NEED
Grand wine needs the new system because current system has below issues:
• There is one day delay in getting orders into the system to supplying customers with products.
• There is so system to check latest inventory for sales representatives before accepting orders from customers .The orders are placed on back-order due to lack of stock and this will add delay in delivery.
• There is a loss of Orders due to incorrect entries in sales database as results of human error.
These issues of Grand wine help their competitors to gain confidence of customers and this decrease the number of orders received by Grand wines. So there is a high need of the new system. (Marano, 2008)
3 SCOPE
3.1 OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Grand wine wireless device system project are as follows:
• The new system will be capable to provide access of inventory system to sales
Bonny Doon Vineyards, a successful winery business based in Santa Cruz, California, has grown from selling 5,000 cases of wine a year in 1981 to 200,000 cases a year in 1999. To keep growing and be more profitable, the business must choose amongst three possible strategic directions. The first strategy is to start importing wines from Europe into the United States. The second alternative is branching into a retail outlet for unusual wines of great value, accompanied by a high level of service. Lastly, the business’ D.E.W.N could be expanded to include wines not made by the company itself but by other wineries that follow the same values and philosophy.
If the operation have not reordered all the goods they need, this can lead to irritated customers and lower revenue for the operation.
The dynamics of the global wine industry are better understood through a brief history of wine as well as an overview of the wine making process. Some countries have longer historical and cultural ties with wine then others and that can affect the quality and perception of the product in the eyes of the consumer. Also, the conditions in which the wine grapes are raised and the processes used to make the wine can create a superior wine and therefore a competitive advantage.
The buyer’s power within the wine industry varies between different places in the world. There are for example strategic differences between Europe and the “New World”. The “New World” includes countries like the US, Australia, Chile and South Africa. In Europe there is a big competition
For instance (ceteris paribus), if the transportation of the HP products were air shipped, and the lead time passed from four and a half weeks to three days, logically stock levels would decrease. The same would happen if we reduce the time between orders or the level of satisfaction that we want to assurance to our customers.
Lead times act as a multiplier with regard to demand fluctuations. Even small changes in demand result in either high stock outs or high holding costs due to the time delay in delivery, since the order quantity cannot be adjusted during the lead time. Another factor is demand forecasting. Retailer, distributor and manu-facturer use different forecasting methods (in most cases not very sophisticated), leading to different results and biasing the demand forecast at the end of the supply chain.
Effective management of follow-ups, managing shipping delays, and communicating updated information to the customer is key to our success. Part of this is renegotiating RDD’s with the customer if there are supplier delays, at this time the date in the system must be
The tags with Parker’s ratings also influence the placement of the wines in a retail stores. Parker’s influence to the wine industry did create many benefits to the consumers but a long with it some controversies. (Appendix 1)
Vincor does market wine alternatives itself, as a way of dealing with substitute demand. Vincor makes cider and has a wine kit business division (Spagnols) that gives Vincor some product diversification. Partly because of the ease of competition and as part of the differentiation and protection of the Canadian wine industry, Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA), a quality assurance program that identifies Canadian premium grape content, assists in making start-up more difficult for those wishing to emulate Canadian wine brands. The dollars spent on marketing and brand loyalty play a large part in protecting market share and there are certain absolute cost advantages that contribute to establishing some barriers to new competition. Ultimately, there is little cost to the consumer when considering switching brands. Experimentation in wine drinking is often a characteristic of the wine drinking market and thus can contribute to promoting new substitute entry into the market.
Ensuring a product is available when the customer wants it adheres to time utility. This is one where Apple has had trouble with. Apple was forced to push back the release date of the iPhone 5, resulting in a lot of negative comments from the consumers who pre-ordered it. The reason behind it was that the demand for the iPhone 5 was bigger than their stock. You need to make sure that you can provide your good when the consumer wants it and counts on it.
In 2001 there were over 1 million wine producers worldwide, and no firm accounted for more than 1% of global retail sales. Because of this, it would be nearly impossible for the Robert Mondavi winery to dominate sales in any region. Due to Mondavi’s efforts, the winery became one of America’s most innovative,
The United States wine industry is a 12 billion dollar industry and is composed of 7,000 wineries and around 1,800 different companies. The three major companies within the industry are Constellation brands, E&J Gallo, and The Wine Group Inc. The industry has made its way through the economic crisis at a better rate than some of the other U.S industries however in order for them to continue to see any type of growth it is important that they acknowledge their issues and find ways in which they can rectify them. The majority of the issues among the industry are problems that cannot be directly controlled by individual wine companies. Therefore it is imperative that wineries find away to use these issues to their
As stated in the Hall Lecture Five, development is the “effort to improve an employees’ abilities to handle a variety of assignments & to cultivate employees’ capabilities beyond those required by the current job” (2016). In order for a management development program to be effective, a performance management and performance appraisal system should be developed or created. A performance management system “should be consistent with the strategic mission of the organization, beneficial as a development tool, useful as an administrative tool, legal & job-related, viewed as generally fair by employees, and effective in documenting employee performance” (Belhaven University, 2016). Firstly, understanding the difference between performance management and performance appraisal is key when developing and comparing a management development program. Performance management is a “series of activities designed to ensure the organization gets the performance it needs from its employees (Belhaven University, 2016). Performance appraisal is a “process of determining how well employees do their jobs relative to a standard & communicating that information to them” (Belhaven University, 2016). The appraisal performance system should include “category scaling methods, graphic rating scales, comparative methods, narrative methods, and management by objectives or MBO (Belhaven University, 2016).
Making wine is nothing else but a touch of passion, love and few drops of magic. From the first view, wine industry seems very artistic and secret at the same time. There is no doubt that hearing that Robert Mondavi Corporation is going to layoff 4% of its workforce ring the bell to the investors, at the same type the stock price dropping down dramatically makes an impression that the company is going through difficult period as the senior management is upon completing the reconfiguring future strategy. The big decision is whether to get back to original vision, and focus on the domestic market, which bring a 90% of revenues or continue diversification and keep on pursuing the vision of
Harris is using what is called a time objection also known as stalling technique. In this particular case study Harris already has the need fulfilled by a different supplier and while they have had a few late deliveries Harris need to determine if it worth going through all of the work to get set up a new vendor. The time objection is often one of the hardest objections to gauge because it can mean many different things. In certain cases changing product can be a major process and can be very time consuming. With such a major change it is understandable that buyers want to take
