According to Lawrence and Weber (2014), in Business and Society, “Ethics is the conception of right and wrong” (p.69). Basically, it is a person’s perception of what is good, or what is bad when dealing with behavior. A persons notions are influenced by many different things. These include: religious institutions, schools, role models, the media, and family members. All of these experiences help to create a persons concept of ethics (Lawrence and Weber, 2014). One might believe that business ethics are a separate set of ideas and values different from personal ethics. However, they are not. For a business to be ethical, they must draw their ideas from the same source as society (Lawrence and Weber, 2014).
My Personal Ethical Position I believe that ethics in a business is important. In a case study by Cadbury Schweppes (2002), it is stated that ethical behavior has many benefits for the business. Ethical behavior can attract customers and in return, can boost sales and profits (Ethical business practices, 2002).. It can also reduce labor turnover and increase productivity because employees want to work and stay with the company (Ethical business practices, 2002). Finally, having ethical behaviors within a company will keep the share price high by attracting investors (Ethical business practices, 2002). If I owned a business, I would want to act in a way that would express my personal values and sense of right and wrong. In the book, it talks about ethical

In today’s world people would have you believe that ethics is a questionable requirement. That ethics is based on perception. In business we should all live by a certain standard of fairness that includes an amount of personal morals that prevent you from simply following the crowd. If you want to be a true leader in the business world it requires a certain amount of courage to do what is right regardless of the personal consequences.

As a descriptive enterprise, business ethics is an analytical exercise in understanding and explaining how people and businesses make their ethical judgments and decisions. If your business does not carry the proper ethics it cannot thrive. It takes the necessary steps within the business management to enforce these ethics upon their business.
