HBCU Greek organizations are one of the most prospective and student sanctioned organizations. They have the representation to either be a great organization where the concept of charity and family is govern. Or they can be the source of reckless activities and worse of it all hazing. Throughout the articles, I gathered that these organizations can either be a source of inspiration or the student’s downfall.
I believe that the National Honor Society should play a sizable role in the school community. The National Honor Society does an outstanding job commemorating students not just for academics, but also for leadership, characteristics, and service. Almost all other awards given at schools deal strictly with congratulating students for excellent academics, whereas top students of the National Honor Society excel in all of the criteria.

I work diligently to keep my GPA up so I can stay in NHS and graduate with honors. Even with the advanced placement classes I am taking, I know that the extra work will help my future. I would like to be a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated because I relish, relate and appreciate the Foundation of which Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Incorporated was founded upon. The members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated are women who represent finer womanhood. They are kind, respectful and most of all professional. After being impressed with the Zetas on Bennett college campus, I decided to really take the time to learn more information about the organization. I went on the Internet, I visited the divine nine on various campuses and I fell in love with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. One of the reasons I fell in love with the organization was because they were the only organization with the principal of Finer Womanhood.
Nolan Burch, a young man local to the area, died last year of alcohol poisoning. He was pledging the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at West Virginia University, and was forced to consume a bottle of alcohol as part of his pledge process. There are over nine million Greek members nationally and more than half college students are involved in some form of campus hazing (Daley). Hazing is an important part of a pledge process that is based on tradition. Every member of the fraternity or sorority has gone through the exact same pledge process and it is a necessary rite of passage that creates bonds within a group. It is also meant to discipline the new members and maintain a hierarchy. Since hazing is only on the news when someone gets hurt or dies,

Through out middle and high school students become very close to the people that they see everyday. Students spend more time with the people in their class than their family somedays. In the 4 years of high school students become very comfortable with these people and even though for a lot these people are the only friends they have. After high school when everyone goes their separate ways many students start college alone, this puts a lot of stress on many students that are having to live alone and take actual responsibilities on top of classwork and school work. Meeting people can be very intimidating, joining a fraternity or a sorority comes with many benefits like people with meeting people, bettering your future, and being held accountable for your actions.
