When an american pursued without any positive sometimes it can lead to even more negative outcomes. This is why focusing on one thing at a time is necessary for achievement of goals. To dream big is good but is all you are focusing on is the final product it becomes hard to even reach it. We see this when Walter in the Raisin in the sun says, “I want so many things that they are driving me kind of crazy…Mama – look at me[,]” (1.2.222) Revealing, Walter’s desires are complex to the point of becoming a hazard to him. Has the insane amount of drive but this can lead to a even greater fall when he isn’t stable. To dream big can be dangerous if one's dreams are not given a chance. As the two plays show many of the characters believe that getting rich and success comes with one lucky bounce. What they don’t understand and haven’t seen is the work leading up to his positive out come. This fallacious point of view on the American dream is deeply reflected in The Death of a Salesman, when Willy says, “What’s the mystery? The man knew what he wanted and went out and got it! Walked into a jungle, and comes out, the age of twenty-one, and he’s rich! The world is an oyster, but you don’t crack it open on a mattress!” (Act 1) This reveals that Willy believes that finding success is easy as wanting it and is faithful in the idea that you can get rich quick. Willys brother makes his vast fortune in Africa, which is funny because he becomes obsessive over an American dream that doesn't completely work in alliance with his American dream.
