Abstract:
This essay will talk about the lack of family structure can be one of the biggest causes of delinquency. It touches on four objectives on how lack of family structure can be a cause to a child’s delinquency.
One of the biggest causes of delinquency is the lack of stable family structure. For instance, a child could be hurt, if not receiving passionate love and care from their parents. Those not receiving love from their parents or their guardian as a child will probably act out for attention or start creating bad behavioral habits. I know every family is not a perfect and not every child is fortunate to have their parents in their lives. In this paper there are four objectives that I will talk about the lack of stable

This can also cause a broken home and can affect a child. Siegel and Welsh (2012) defines broken homes as home in which one or both parents are absent due to divorce or separation in such an environment may be prone to antisocial behavior. According to Siegel and Welsh (2012) children growing up in broken homes were much more likely to fall prey to delinquency than those who lived in two parent households. Another issue that a family can have is when parents have a disagreement. When the children see their parents misbehavior it can have affect on the child’s behavior too. The child might not get alone with other people or have bad relationships with others. They also might keep to themselves socially. Siegel and Welsh (2012) states divorce may influence children’s misbehavior through its effect on parental misbehavior. The last objective I will touch on is the lack of poor parenting skills. Parenting skills today are way different then it was back in the past. Parents today are not teaching their children the right and wrong of their child’s action. They are not showing them the consequences of their child’s action. Most of the time children tend to imitate or pick up bad habits their parents do. That’s where the parent needs to step in and tell them to stop what their habits and teach them to break the cycle. In today society morals and values are not taught to the child as they need to be.
This research is important because understanding what makes a juvenile delinquent is necessary to know. Parents can be educated on what is affecting their teen to contribute to delinquent behavior. The family structure has been avoided by many citizens. Educating the public on the family structure can make a different in a teen’s life.
When looking at a juvenile delinquent and trying to decipher the root of their problems or the origin of their bad behavior, I think it’s significantly important to understand and analyze the environment in which the youth was raised. Sociologists have studied the relationship between parental incarceration and juvenile delinquency and have come to several conclusions discussed through scholarly articles as to why adolescents of incarcerated parents engage in delinquency. A wide variety of theories have been discussed in the various literature reviewed, but this review will focus on three main themes which emerged throughout the literature. These themes are: attachment, family structure and labeling or stigmatization.
I agree with you, there are many field within the criminal justice profession. I’ve also seen many new civilian jobs enter the profession as well. We have civilian analysts and computer programmers that assist with our intel led policing programs. We also have civilians that work with our investigators and their sole mission is to research suspect’s social media sites and provides this information to the investigators. I believe this is consistent with you statement about human resources changing with the times and having to tailor the employee to the ever changing job. When we first started using computers to research and build cases, we would send the investigators to training. Over the years we realized this training was constantly being
Delinquency data was drawn from government records and included rates, frequency and type of delinquency. Finally, social service data offered data on child maltreatment. The combination of these variables provides a holistic perspective of factors that do contribute to delinquency. For instance, the study looked at familial factors such as low educational attainment and parental supervision, which are independent predictors of delinquency (Zigler el al., 1992). On the other hand, the use of secondary data may have jeopardized the validity. What if a delinquent act was not captured, due to incorrect records, then the record would provide a false negative.
There have been many studies conducted to correlate the family structure and how it may or may not affect juvenile delinquency (Sheehan, 2010). This is because the structure of a family is a very popular choice to explain delinquent behavior. What is interesting, to me, is how the general public rejects much of the scholarly research, which shows that juvenile delinquency has been on the decline (Sheehan, 2010). In fact, the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice shows that juveniles who have been incarcerated has been cut in half from 1980 through 2004 (Sheehan, 2010). However, data from 2008 and 2009 shows that juvenile delinquency is still an issue today. In 2008, there were well over 6000 arrests for every 100,000 youths and in 2009,
When a family is unable to offer a stable foundation they begin to face challenges. Problems in the family are commonly cited as variables that can lead to delinquency. Research points to dysfunctional parenting, abuse, family size, and neglect as some of the concerns that can influence the quality of a child’s life. Large families and indifferent parental attitude can create an environment where a child feels rejected. In a home where the parent’s attention is always divided, the child might be encouraged to act out as a way to seek
Individuals that engage in criminal behavior can be linked to parental influence and lack of juvenile bond as a juvenile with their parents. The importance of this study is to understand the negative influence of having a parent involved in criminal activity and how it may lead their children down the same deviant path. It is important to If we can understand the correlation link between the parent’s deviant behavior and its negative effect on their children. Furthermore, alternative methods more methodology and programming can be developed to stop reduce or alter this process to enable these children to live a crime free life. to lead these children into a crime free life. This paper will analyze a variety of empirical qualitative methods
The purpose of this paper is to show that the changes in family structure in Texas is connected to Juvenile delinquent behavior. This is important to understand because it is uprooting the problem society has at hand. When bringing to light problems we have with the youth of the society we live in, there is an exposure to the problem and can bring forth resources to parents and young kids so that we may deter delinquent behavior. Dysfunctional families is most likely going to effect and influence a child’s behavior. When a lack of proper manors, or respect for others will reflect on how they see the law. This behavior and mentality would only push them act what they think is normal, and that is to not respect and follow rules of society. (Law)
As a Detective, their job is to serve and protect the law all costs. There are many factors that play into being a protector of the law, and its honorable citizens. When you think about detectives, what is the first thing pops up in your mind? Detectives must work in sometimes tough situations depending on where they get assigned. Now police, patrol the street and keep a look out for traffic violations while the Detectives go out into the field and try to dig up facts to help solve the case that they are assigned to.
conflict may lead to the inability of both parents to respond to the children 's emotional needs
Many researchers have conducted research on the negative impact that a family structure has on juvenile delinquency. In this paper, I intend to find the direct relationship between the arrest
Girls who grew up in stepfamilies were involved in more delinquent behavior compared to girls who lived in in-tact homes. For boys, living in a single parent family greatly increases the chance of delinquent behavior while living in a stepfamily does not. The test also showed that a good relationship with the mom and dad helped lower delinquent activities in girls. For boys, having a good relationship with their dad and lower conflict in the family helped lower delinquent activity.
Unfortunately, remarriage does not lessen the effects of the divorce and are proven to be less stable than families with two biological parents. However, divorce or family breakup is not necessary to have family conflict. Some married couples never get divorced but continue living in constant aggression and conflict. There is very little difference between the behavior of children who witness intrafamily violence and those who are the victims of violence and abuse. Also harmful to a child 's development is the lack of skill some parents have raising their children, also known as parental efficacy. A lack of parental efficacy can lead to delinquency through the means of overly-harsh discipline, inconsistent supervision, and poor communication. Children of working mothers and larger families are at a higher risk of delinquency as well. While family structure is essential to the development of youth, just as influential are the behaviors and deviance of the family. Studies have show that a significant number of delinquent youth have criminal fathers. Unsurprisingly, delinquent siblings can also have an effect on the delinquency of youth. Of course, child abuse and neglect can cause serious problems for a child and lead to delinquency. Being abused or neglected as a child can increase the likelihood of delinquency by 59 percent. Being physically abused also increases the chances of committing
The study suggests that the differences between the link between delinquency and paternal and maternal parenting, a fathers’ supportive behavior was more strongly related to delinquency than mothers’ support. In order to analyze whether the same sex between parents and child influenced delinquent behavior the study broke up subjects by fathers–sons and mothers–daughters, and fathers–daughters and mothers–sons The link
As per Wright and Wright (1994) the family is the foundation of human society. Children who are dismissed by their parents, who experience childhood in homes with significant conflict, or who are insufficiently regulated are at the most serious danger of becoming delinquents. Immarigeon (1996) says all that needs to be said when he expresses that equity can be better off and youngsters directed on the right way by including families in adolescent wrongdoing cases. If anything would have vast influence in delinquency it would be a family.
