The Industrial Revolution brought many changes to the societies that experienced the process of industrialization. Some of the changes benefited society while others caused harm to most of the society. Most affected by these changes was the working class of theses societies, in regards to the working people of the country of England they had experienced a lot of pain caused by the industrialization. The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain (1700) for different kinds of reasons Britain literally had access to a number of natural resources, such as iron and coal. The agricultural sector of the British economy had been steadily growing during the 18th century, Agricultural stability allowed the British population to increase, The …show more content…
The buildings were positive because they gave homeless people places to live. Also, they were built within walking distance of a factory but built away from the smoke they built churches and architecture that was modernized they had also built row houses and apartments for people who needed homes when they moved. A Second Positive Effect the industrial Revolution had been The changing class structure because basically people started to make more money, this was because they were coming out with laws that forced the factory owners to pay a minimum wage, also there was a middle class which started to emerging which basically got rid of an aristocracy. A Third Positive Effect is that the middle class was another result of the Industrial Revolution, because of industrialization many people were not being able to earn money, not enough to be considered wealthy, but more than poor, thus creating a middle …show more content…
Their hours were long and they were not permitted any breaks. The managers/owners were very strict and if the worker was caught dozing off or slowing down they were severely punished so basically the workers had to work even though they were tired. A Second Negative Effect was Disease which had accounted for many deaths in industrial cities during the Industrial Revolution with a chronic lack of hygiene, little knowledge of sanitary care and no knowledge as to what caused diseases such as cholera, typhoid and typhus could be devastating. As the cities became more populated, so the problem got worse, Cholera was a greatly feared disease, It was basically caused by contaminated water, it could spread with speed and with devastating consequences many people had died because of these diseases. A Third negative Effect was Child labor they were given very low pay and worked in very bad conditions, the girls with long hair could get caught in the machines and possibly kill the child, they worked barefoot for 12 to 14 hours and were given no breaks, since they were working in a factory all day, they were not able to get a very good education so they wouldn't go to school they could possibly read but
The industrial revolution was not only technological revolution but a social one that would lie foundation that would grow the word “revolution” exponentially. The industrial revolution brought with it change, whether that change was positive or negative is questionable however it did change the world as it was known. In both England and the United States of America strong industrial revolutions struck, the revolutions would change roles in the household and society for both women and me and the ideologies held about gender roles. In both countries effected by the revolution, industrialization challenged religion and authority, the impact of which can still be seen today.
One negative effect of the Industrial Revolution was the poor working conditions in factories which were a big problem during the Industrial Revolution. Many people worked in factories, which had very tight spaces and poor lighting. Many
Most machines had no safety devices, meaning that one mistake could result in a lost limb, and in worse cases a lost life. Sometimes, workers would even fall asleep in the middle of working next to an unsafe machine. Children were basically taken advantage of in the factories since their small hands and bodies could fit where the adults’ could not. Their job was often to change spools in the humid textile mills or to repair broken machines or threads. The children were young and uneducated and were not aware of the hazards all around them, such as the huge machines. They faced whippings when making a mistake or disobeying. Lint and dust filled the air, weakening the workers’ lungs and eyesight. In conclusion, the environmental factors and machines inside the factories harmed the working-class, resulting in too many illnesses or lost
Despite not having the same physical strength and stamina as men, women (and children) were forced to crawl on their hands and feet and drag a bucket of coals (Betty Harns). They suffered long hours everyday only to receive little pay. The common people had to endure this barbaric work just to end up dying at a young age from disease and other health issues. Also, according to Child Labor in Factories, the work was very dangerous, injuring or killing children on the job. These poor kids were always at risk of dying to, also, receive little to no pay. It is worse for the orphan children, though. They sometimes did not even get paid at all, and the employers justified their absence of payroll by claiming they fed and housed the children (source 11). The children were beaten if they were found sleeping on the job and were forced to walk the streets naked if they were late to work. If a worker was ill and had to leave work, they were shown no remorse and not paid. All these working people were treated like less than humans for what? Better products? The life of a human is worth far more than the Industrial Revolution ever
Although there were many positives to the industrial revolution such as the improved transport system around the country, the quicker manufacturing, the new
They got very sick and sometimes they go deformities because of their weaker build. Having women working caused many issues throughout the country. They were paid between 1/2 and 1/3 of men wages because they got through their weaknesses of that they needed the money to support their families. Their long skirts and hair got caught in the machines, which severely ripped of their hair and destroyed their clothes, or they get killed. The overall
The Industrial revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes and inventions. The Industrial revolution began in Great Britain in the 1700's. Great Britain was a perfect first country candidate because of the second Agricultural revolution. Because of the second agricultural revolution, people had to move away and work in factories in order to make a living and provide for their families. Because of this, people moved to cities opening up an opportunity for Great Britain to grow in economy. New skilled mechanics emerged, and so did the demand for new inventions. With more food the population grew starting up the Industrial revolution. Placement of food regulations, improvement in medicine, and expansion of electricity are 3 ways
The Industrial revolution was a pivotal time in the worlds history due to the major advances in many fields such as; Industry and agriculture that occurred between the 18th and 19th century. Advancements such as developments in medicine, housing and inventions and more, had direct effects on many key aspects of what is here today. Conditions for those who lived in the time were not easy, wages were low, lack of safety, and general living conditions were all round terrible. Yet many of things first brought about in the time period shaped what we have today and were the early building blocks to modern creations.
While society did receive obvious benefits from industrialization, such as lower cost of goods and higher standard of living, factory workers, who made up 80% of the workforce at the time of the industrial revolution, were the ones who payed the price. The costs of industrialization included long hours of grueling labor, unsafe conditions, and corrupt managers exploiting workers for their labor; most laborers worked 10 to 14 hours a day, six days a week, with no paid vacation or holidays. In addition, the working conditions of the factories were extremely poor and contained many health and safety hazards, such as exposed moving machinery/cogs which could crush a worker’s limbs in textile mills, or high temperatures and toxic vapors in steel and iron manufacturing plants. Furthermore, because no workman’s compensation laws existed at the time when the industrial revolution began workers who were injured were often abandoned from the moment they had an accident, their wages are stopped, no medical assistance was provided, and no matter the extend of the injury no compensation was required to be payed.
During the time of the Industrial Revolution there was great suffering amongst the working class. Extreme human labour was forced upon the workers to keep the Industrial Revolution alive. Many examples of this can be seen through the living conditions, the rights of the workers and child labour.
The Industrial Revolution was a period of transition which took place in the late 18thcentury, England. This transition included the change in lifestyle, agricultural production, manufacturing, mining, transportation and technology. It had profound effects within the society and economy changing the structure of British society we know today.
A lifestyle, culture, a way of living completely changed in only 150 years. The industrial revolution was a period of time, between the years of 1750 and 1900 that changed the way people lived, farmed and produced items. Many things were invented, factories, railroads, new social constructs were created. Some of the things that came out of the industrial revolution benefitted people’s lives while others worsened the lives of people. Six major changes caused by the industrial revolution were, housing, the social class system of England, factories, inventors and the inventions they created, health conditions (mental and physical problems), and social conditions (unemployment, alcohol, crime, family life).
The Industrial Revolution had many negative affects on people. Many people worked from home before the Revolution. Raw materials were delivered to people's cottages and the weavers would process the wool in their homes. This was an advantage for the workers because they would make their own schedules and work at their own pace; however, for these same reasons, they were disadvantages for business owners. The Industrial Revolution made it possible to move the jobs from cottages to factories where they business owners can oversee the workers and account for their time. Some people considered the factory jobs a blessing while others considered it a hardship. The work day was long, conditions were unsanitary and food was sparse.
One of the positive effects that came from the Industrial Revolution is modern buildings and inventions. The rise in population forced the developers to build homes for the many people moving to the city. Urban middle class people lived in homes that screamed wealth. The upper class built their homes west of the factories in order to separate themselves from the poor and so that the factories smokestacks would blow away from them. Not only were there new
The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain. The Industrial Revolution was when this country took the right to mix people, laborers, and raw materials. This task was completed by making goods by machine compared to making goods by hand. The Industrial Revolution completely changed people’s lives and still experience its affects today. The Industrial Revolution made the lives of workers harder than it had before industrialization because of child labor, dangerous working conditions, and injuries in factories.
