When people talk about cell phones in classrooms, people can be very split. People say that it can distract students and fellow classmates, with text messaging and video games so present with our day and age. But, what I believe is that with new and upcoming age of technology, Cellphones are going to be much more relevant in the world we live in. This is the reason students should be allowed to use this tool in places like the classroom. First, as I already stated, phones are very prevalent with the culture we have formed today. On average both male and female have a range of about 83% have some sort of cell phone. (Source G). This number is huge, and has the capabilities for many schools to benefit off of. “For schools with limited technologies available to students, cell phones mimic computers, that the classroom may lack”(Source A). This quote is just showing one possibility of an …show more content…
Also, teachers can utilize these tool by giving students their own personal tv, or where they can assign a video during class and have students watch at their own speeds and know that they can see and hear much easier. My point is throughout this whole writing, is that cell phones are not going to go away, and people need to see that there is a ton of uses and tools that teachers and students could utilize if they use it the correct way. So overall I believe the policy should be made that cell phones can be used in a schooling environment, being used in the correct way. This could be very positive if students can be allowed and shown how much power the little rectangles in our pockets
Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. The world is starting taking it to another level, so there are also the downsides of these phones, the downsides that make this technology distracting, making people to beleive they shouldn’t be alowed in class. While it is true, phones can be a distraction sometimes, if the students are monitered the right way and know exactly what they are doing, phones just might be able to work out. With proper use, phones should be alowed in school.
Have you ever wanted to use cellphones in school? Cell phones have many benefits and positive uses that help students during school a lot. Although cell phones can be distracting they should be allowed in school in case of an emergency, to teach responsibility, and to help in school like homework and research.
Akers states that students use cell phones to make fun of another or to harass others. Another piece of evidence is from the same article that states a problem is "Secretly taking inappropriate photographs of other students and disturbing them". This information proves how phones shouldn't be allowed because they can be used to make others unwanted, embarrassed, or unsafe within schools. On to the next topic. A second reason why cell phones shouldn't be allowed is because. Students need to understand the rules of having a cell phone in class how they don't need them all the time. Here's a quote from the article "As Schools Lift Bans on Cell Phones, Educators Weigh Pros and Cons" by Kinjo Kiema. ""Don't feel as if because students have the devices they have to be using them all the time," she explains. "They just really need to be careful and thoughtful and take baby steps, and develop a nice protocol and rules and structures for how students physically handle the device in the classroom." The quote explains how students shouldn't always be on there phone to get answer and how they should understand the rules of the classroom about cellphones . A second quote is
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
According to David Raths, “Twenty-four percent of K-12 schools ban cell phones altogether, and 62 percent allow phones on school grounds but ban them in the classroom.” A communication tool that has become part of our everyday lives, creating a sort of dependence, is limited or banned for most K-12 students. For a population that always has access, limiting this connection seems backwards. Cell phones have changed everyone 's life in one way or another. From how they communicate to how they learn in the classroom. Students should be allowed to use their cellphones in class because it would cut down money spent on computers, allow students to use
Having cell phones in school can also help students to be elated and feel motivated to attend school. A study conducted in 2005 by Sonja Lyubomirsky, Laura King and Ed Diener showed that happiness causes achievement and success. For this reason cell phones could really help students and teachers. Although students should be able to succeed without a device to motivate them, it's a really useful tool that could benefit in multiple ways. This suggests that having a cell phone in school benefits both students and teachers according to their behavior and how happy the students would
Cellphones can be used for cheating and are a distraction, but they have their pros. Cellphones can be used for studying for a test, taking a quiz, writing down ideas or notes, music helps students study, calculator, share notes, etc. There are so many uses for cell phones in class, in an article amber Schaefer said “We need to stop pushing against the technology and start embracing it,”an elementary school teacher in Minnesota. “The more we push back, the more we separate ourselves from the students. It is time to incorporate and collaborate instead of ban and punish.”
Linda Matchan, author of “Schools Seek Balance For Cellphones In Class,” says that when using cellphones in class, the test scores went up 6.41 percent. Also, the teachers have programs that help students who might be struggling with a subject. There are many websites, apps, and programs that help kids who need extra practice in Reading and Writing, or Mathematics. Still, the thought of cell phones shouldn’t be accepted. In most schools, they have computers or laptops; but students still take the advantage and go on things that they are not allowed
Thesis: Cell phones should be used in high schools to replace educational tools, to keep in contact with parents, and to get students career and college ready.
If I were to disagree with the author's opinion my argument would mainly be about the positive effects of bringing cell phones to school. The author had made a powerful argument on why cell phones should not be allowed in school settings nevertheless, there are also many positive reasons why cell phones should be allowed in school settings. One example in particular is for emergency reasons. Most children's parents would like their children to bring their cell phones to school in case of emergency. Cell phones really could keep you safe believe it or not. The number of 9-1-1 is a very useful number that could save many people's lives. During school, it could happen to be that there is a very serious and life-threatening situation that takes
Why are cell phones so feared in schools? Why could they help us instead of becoming a hindrance in the classroom? WHAT makes them so useful? Students are becoming easily distracted by cell phones in the classroom, so schools are beginning to ban the usage of cellphones in schools. Although phones may also be a possible point of distraction in the classroom. The phones may prove more of a benefit to not only students, but the school staff and student’s parents. The phones provide Quick and easy access for parents to plan and organize what happen in school with their children, Phones can also be used as a tool to track and organize certain data in the classroom, while the students study in class, their phones also enable them access to listen
To add along, students should not be able to use their cell phone during school hours is because they are a distraction. Students can not comprehend if they are texting during class. Children could be on games, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram while they are supposed to be learning. For example, a student's cell phone just beeped while the teacher is teaching. The cell phone just distracts the other students and the teacher. Cell phones are not only distracting to students, they are distracting to teachers while they are supposed to be teaching the students. The teacher has to stop teaching and wait for the student to turn off his/her phone which then causes the whole class to have to stop. Another way that cell phones can be a distraction is that most students like to watch videos on their cell phones while the teacher is teaching. Some of the videos may be inappropriate and cause the student to get into serious trouble. An example of this would have to be a
Cell phones cause negative effects and disturb students from learning. Students need to get an education and learn more about school work. Students and teens will worry way much more about their phones than their school work. Cell phone are a big disturbance and need to stay off the school property. Many students love to research things they do not need to research and that is one reason why students do not need their phones during school. Cell phones should not be allowed or used during school hours. Students just need to worry more about their school work and do not need to worry about their phones. Students need to be banned and their teachers need to take their student's
All people are on these days are their phones, so it makes sense that teachers say that cellphones cause a distraction among classmates. However, many children and even some parents want phones to be allowed in schools. Believe it or not, phones can benefit students as well as the school! Cellphones can actually serve as a learning tool both in and out of the classroom. On the contrary, some schools already have tablets or laptops for their students to use for educational purposes, so why are phones needed? Phones aren 't necessarily needed, but they can make a huge impact on the school and its community. Despite what people say, phones can actually be helpful by saving the school money and giving students a ticket to their safety in case an emergency were to occur.
Mobile telephone being used to simply share or exchange information and remain in touch with friends and family, they are becoming a huge disturbance and a serious argument in schools and work environments. If we could prohibit cell phones in schools over the United States, it would authorize students to concentrate on without distractions, increase their grades, and could possibly lower health risks. Students are going to persistently use their cell phones for their own personal communications via social media when they should be paying attention to what is going on in their classes. Prohibit the usage of cell phones in schools would disconnect that interruption. A review conducted by 2004 Teens and Parents Project showed that at least 45% of teens had cell phones.
