1.) When you first meet fourteen year old Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. This was back in 1973, she tells us; before Susie disappeared, or was killed. This novel takes place in a small town near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and it takes place from 1973 to 1981. There are some smaller settings in New Hampshire and California also. This story has a really sad and poignant mood. We mourn for Susie just like her family and friends do, and want things to go as planned for her in heaven. Although, when Mr. Harvey stalks his victims the mood is a little suspenseful as well. 2.) The main character Susie is the narrator of the novel and she is a teenage girl who has been raped and murdered. In this novel, she tells us all about her as she watches

Even though it’s focused on Susan’s early childhood and her life prior to becoming Ms. Burton, the story itself is much more than Susan’s. There are layers, many layers, involved in Susan’s story. It can be read, by only looking at the outer, weak layer, where the reader is only
During this section of the book, I felt contented that someone was finally trying to find out more things about Mr. Harvey. In this case, it is Susie's father, Jack Salmon. I like how Jack Salmon is strong and won't give up until he finds his daughter's murderer. On the other hand, I was upset and confused as to why Ray didn't attend Susie's memorial service. I thought about this for a moment and then I understood that maybe Ray wanted to forget about Susie, but he still missed her at the same time. Overall, what really shocked me about this section of the book was when Lindsey passed out at Susie's memorial service. It startled me that Lindsey passed out due to the eye contact she made with Mr. Harvey. This event made me feel determined to

The protagonist of the book is George. George is the main character who makes the difficult decisions such as where they worked or other decisions. One of the hardest decisions George had to make is killing his best friend. Some more examples of how George is the protagonist is he would help Lennie decide what to say to people and where to hide if he got into trouble. He also told Lennie that he would do all the talking while they are at the ranch, as well as, not talking to anybody else. Lennie would also need George because he

Though intriguing, heaven can sometimes be a fear. People try to imagine what it might be like to leave this Earth, and soon they slowly come spiraling back down from their mountain of clouds, and realize that is incomprehensible to imagine such an event. Due to this inability to fully grasp the meaning of the after life, people have begun to have different perspectives on what heaven means to them. Some fear death, while others invite it into their lives either out of curiosity or hope. As for Susie Salmon, she neither feared death nor encouraged it. Her murder was an unexpected one, but George Harvey was the only one expecting this moment for weeks. The Lovely Bones (novel by Alice Sebold and movie directed by Peter Jackson)
