The operation manager must stay focused on the delivery of state-of-the-art healthcare while looking to improve future technology at the facility. This entails not only equipment and technology but also assuring that state mandated regulations are closely followed. The operations manager can often be the difference between a well-maintained and operated hospital/clinic or a chaotic environment where the quality of patient care suffers. Clearly the stakes in any merger or acquisition are high when bringing two different cultures together under the same roof but when done properly it will form a collaborative, high-performance new company. The Joint Commission focuses on certain goals each year. For patient safety and positive outcomes, hospitals are required to follow certain standards. National Patient Safety Goals were established in 2002 to help identify areas of concern with patient safety. This group is made up by a panel of experts including nurses, doctors, pharmacists and many other healthcare professionals. After reviewing the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Supplemental Compliance Guidelines for Hospitals I have found that there is great purpose for a compliance document in a healthcare facility. The purpose of this document in a healthcare facility is to be able to act as a guideline for healthcare facilities to consider, develop, and implement a compliance plan that meets federal regulations. Healthcare facilities have these compliance documents to help to cover and verify all that all services ordered for a patient were reasonable and necessary services for the patient to be treated accordingly and without fail. Health care organizations that choose to convert to an electronic medical record system (EMR) have several advantages; most important it increases patient safety, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and security. Accepting such a transition also presents with its share of challenges like preparing for the required significant time obligation and resources that will make the transition a successful one. For a purchasing operation to be effective it must adhere to some key points. A purchasing operation must identify the requirements of the user, effectively and efficiently evaluate the needs of the user, and identify suppliers that will meet the needs of the use. They must also develop agreements with those suppliers, develop ordering mechanism with the suppliers and ensure payment occurs promptly and determine that the need of the user was met.
