Argumentative Essay
During the American Revolution, patriots were the people who supported the war against Britain, and loyalists were the people who opposed the war. I would be a patriot during the American Revolution because England’s debt was not the colonists’ responsibility, they were doing a good job governing for themselves, and innocent people died in the Boston Massacre. One reason I would be a patriot during the American Revolution is because England’s debt was not the colonists’ responsibility. Many colonists fought in the French and Indian War, and they did their part. England should have stopped forcing the colonists to unwillingly pay the war debt. The taxes took away some of the colonists’ money. Additionally, they loaned money
I am a Patriot because they were more independent, they broke away for their freedom and independence. They helped the colonist that fought for their freedom from the british. People in America felt they weren't being treated fairly. They were being taxed without representation in the british government. That is why most people actually became
There was a war fought between the original thirteen colonies and Great Britain around April in 1775. This war was known as The American Revolution and although war was pretty common back then but, this was a different kind of war. The thirteen colonies that were rebelling against their mother country were fighting to become a country where every human has the freedom to do and say what they wanted. Also, they had many new ideas for running a country that many countries had never thought of or that they did not want. These ways of running government had never been tried before and were huge changes to how things were done back then. The American Revolution would end up not only changing the thirteen colonies into America, but it also changed
The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), the American War of Independence, or simply the Revolutionary War in the United States, was the prosperous military revolt against Great Britain of Thirteen American Colonies which joined together as the United States of America in July 1776. Originally constrained to fighting in those colonies, after 1778 it additionally became a world war between Britain and France, Netherlands, Spain, and Mysore.
The American Revolution should never have happened. The British were not tyrannical, oppressive rulers although the American colonies perceived them to be so. The American colonists misperceptions led to revolution and independence.
The war seemed to separate the colonists into three separate groups. Ones that were loyal to Britain, which were called “loyalists”. Most loyalists had “business ties” with Britain and saw being on Britain’s side of the war as being “defenders”. While other loyalists despised those that rebelled and assumed their reason to rebel was to obtain more money from the empire. The second group was with George Washington called the “Patriots”, who were fighting for the freedom from Britain, and the third group were people that were trying to go about their lives and not get involved in the war. Though slaves were asked to participate in the war, most went to Britain’s side in exchange for freedom. In 1775, Washington and his army win the battle at Saratoga and this ultimately wins over France as an
After the victory towards French in the Seven Years War, the political and social relationship of the colonists and Great Britain had shifted to a different direction. The colonists began to think of themselves as Americans. At that time, The British government felt that the colonies had become quite independence, and they wanted their colonies to start paying tax in order to help England pay the national debt. Not only were Americans forced to pay direct taxes, but they were also obliged to involve in strict regulatory acts such as Sugar Act and Currency Act. Sugar Act (1764) strongly affected American’s trading in which their oceanic vessels and cargos could be inspected by the British Navy and might be confiscated if the paper and the goods that being transported were in disagreement. Currency Act (1764) restricted colonial governments to print their own paper money. These two acts put some colonists in anger but they were not enough to result in civil disorder until the Stamp Act was passed. The reason that the colonists resisted government authority with the passage of the Stamp Act (1765) was because the Stamp Act collected taxes in all type of papers including newspapers, playing cards, licenses, and stamps. This outraged many colonists especially the educated and
The American Revolution was justified because the colonists were not being treaty fairy and equally by the British. And according to Jefferson, “people being oppressed have a moral obligation to rebel against their oppressors”. From the beginning, the colonists were not given the full rights as British men, just because they were not living in that country. The Navigation Acts passed by the Parliament to restrict colonial trade, and all of colonial trade with Europe had to go through England, overall they wanted to keep colonies in a position of economic dependency on Britain. And that was a serious damage in the colonial economies and people’s aspirations, it makes many colonists unhappy and smuggle goods to other country. And British
The American Revolutionary War in 1755 spouted from a conflict between the British government and British people living in the then 13 American colonies. The crown and his legislature passed tax measures, which the people of the thirteen American colonies fiercely opposed. American leaders took action against taxes because the government that created the laws offered no representation for those being taxed which is where taxation without any representation stems from. The crown only allowed upper-class men vote in England and most elections within American colonies, although the American voting class weren’t able to express on the ballots their views of the parliament.
The gun shot that was heard around the world, in 1775 marks the day of the beginning of the of the American Revolution .During the American Revolution the Seneca people had a critical role. The 3 three Seneca Chief’s , Big Tree, Corn Planter, and Half Town wrote a letter to them asking George Washington to stop killing their people. Some of the Seneca people joined the British, an interesting fact. Who were considering a revolution despite the fact that Native American’s didn’t do anything ? After the research that been done, it can be proven that the American Revolution was actually a Revolution. In the American Revolution the government changed and the people wanted to leave British rule resulting in and there was violence. Of
The American Revolution consisted of elite Whites, Native Americans, and enslaved African Americans, but these ethnicities had a variety of different perspectives. These uncertainties lead to conflicts amongst minorities, women and the poor white working class of America all because they were left without any rights to their social status due to the Constitution.
The citizens are torn between who to support: The British or The Americans. In 1607, the British set off their ships to the land of what is known as America, in which the new Americans were promised a new life. However, as time went on and The British were in debt from the French Revolution, The British took their next step in taxing the Americans. The Americans were outraged and were rebelling, the smallest of objects were being taxed. The Americans believed that by colonizing in an entirely different country means that they should have their own government, thus, the American Revolution. The American Revolution should occurr because it is essential that the Americans were able to become their own country and learn to govern themselves without British help.
In the years before the war for independence, a majority of the colonies were supporters of our union with the British Empire. The dangers to a young colony were numerous, and without the vast resources of the British, it is doubtful the colonies would have survived. As the years progress, the colonies developed a stronger economy, increased food productions, and developed local governments that reduced the need for a guardian empire. As the British government tried to increase its control over the colonies, a group of colonials started to think about life out from under British controls. This group eventually came to be known as the “Patriots.”
The American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence, started from 1775 and ended in 1783. This turning event in history was caused by Great Britain governing the 13 colonies and taxing goods without consent. After the French and Indian War, King George the 3rd needed to pay off war debt. His solution was to tax the colonies, which made them agitated and revolt against Great Britain and their soldiers called the redcoats. There were some people who wanted to stay loyal to Britain and were called Loyalists. On the other hand, colonists who fought for their freedom and supported independence from the British were called Patriots. The colonists and British both believed that the war would be over quickly.Unfortunantly, the colonists didn’t have an experienced and well-trained army unlike the British. Thanks to the France, Spain, and Netherlands, who affiliated with the American patriots the colonists were able to win the war against Britain. Gaining allies was a prominent event because the American colonies needed support from other countries in order
The American Revolution, although thought to be so, was not something that all the colonists of America wanted to happen. The colonists fell under one of three opinions on independence: a patriot, a loyalist, or a neutral. The patriots were completely done with Great Britain and wanted independence. The loyalists wanted the colonies they lived in to remain a part of the glorious British Empire. Lastly, the neutrals didn’t know where they stood concerning independence, or didn’t care. Despite many arguments given by either side, patriot or loyalist, a copious amount of colonists didn’t have or want a side.
The dictionary definition of patriotism is “devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country: national loyalty.” During the American Revolution, both the British and the Americans claimed that they had patriotism. I think the difference between the two was that the Americans had patriotism for their new country. The British had patriotism for their country. This intensifies the conflict between the two countries.
