Name Amy Lennox Course CWV-101 Date August 16, 2020 Instructor Dr. Rob Benchmark - Gospel Essentials There are many worldviews to consider but the Christian worldview is the only view that gives us an eternal life with our Lord in heaven. In addressing the worldview, we have questions such as, who is God, what is humanity, why were we created, who is Jesus, and how can we be restored. God “In the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the word was God” (John 1:1). From the beginning of time God was and it and it was only God. He then created the heaven, the earth, and every living thing. God is the creator of the universe. Dr John Morris writes in an article titled “Why Did God Create us?”,” some things, we cannot be fully comprehended, such as eternal things, infinite things, and matters of God’s sovereign power, for example the question to why did God create us (Morris, 2002)? “I agree with him in his article that God didn’t need us, but Yes, God wanted us. He wanted to have someone to love and to be loved and glorified by. “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created “(Rev4:11) God is a loving God, a forgiving God, and just God. Humanity 1
Human nature is the basic characteristics and behaviors of humans. We were created in the image of God. While God created all things, humans are the only creatures that God created in his image and that God breathed the breath of life into (Genesis 2:7) (Diffey, 2016). Our purpose was to simply worship him. We were created to build a relationship with God, to know him, love him, serve him, and adore him. The fall of humanity began at the Garden of Eden when we became sinful by nature. “The fall shows humanity’s departure from wisdom and affair with idolatry” (Diffey, 2016) When Eve was tempted by the serpent (devil) and acted on it she went against Gods word and brought forth sin. This sin brought forth repercussions as to where we are now born into sin. We became sinful by nature which has become the root cause of problems for humanity. Jesus Jesus is God in the flesh. The Christian worldview places Jesus and the second in the trinity. “He occupies the center of the world in which a Christian lives. Without Jesus, there could be no Christianity, and without his life, death, and resurrection, there could be no Christians” (Hiles, Smith, 2016). Jesus death, resurrection, and restoration is the center of the Christian Worldview. He came to live by example, to serve, and die on the cross that we may have a eternal life. Without his sacrifice we would not have forgiveness. During his time on earth and setting an example God showed his power through Jesus. He performed miracles, signs and wonders. God is the same yesterday today and forever and with the death of Jesus we are now able to have God spirit within us and receive that same power. We can still be healed; he can still work those same miracles in our life today. Restoration 2
To completely have faith in God and Jesus dying on the cross for our sins we can overcome and be restored. Restoration means to put something back to its original state. I believe God restores us to our original state before sinful nature took place. He rescues us, redeems us, then restores us. We may be sinful by nature but when God sent his son to die for our sins that gave us the power to live an overcoming through the holy ghost. God also wants to restore the broken, and give healing. God is the God of restoration. He can mend relationships, broken marriages, he can restore your life in him, and restore your mind, body and soul. Jesus paid the price on Calvary to bring forth such restoration and healing. Every nail driven in his hands and feet, the strips on his back, were taken for complete restoration for you and me. Analysis There are many benefits to having a Christian worldview. The Christian worldview gives hope to us to have an eternal life after death through living a holy and godly. With the Christian worldview it sets morals and guidelines to reflect a wholesome good life. In the Christian worldview there is help from God for any problem you face. You put your faith in him knowing that he is your provider, healer, protector, and that no matter what happens he is working all things for your good (Romans 8:28). Some people have trouble with the Christian worldview and putting their faith in something they cannot see. The Christian worldview is completely built upon faith and this makes the view troublesome or somewhat confusing. Within the Christian Worldview there are many different religions and views on the bible, that can make it difficult on what to believe. I personally don’t believe in religion as much as following the scripture in Philippians 2:12, “Wherefor, my beloved as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.
