1 My Worldview and Theories Savannah Lazrine Department of Psychology, Liberty University PSYC 210: Developmental Psychology Professor Shani Roberts October 31, 2022
2 My Worldview and Theories When studying Psychology and our development throughout different stages in life, worldview is one thing that isn’t truly considered in such a scientific field. However, it is important to look at given some people develop throughout life differently because of different worldviews. Whether they grew up in a religious environment or not can impact an individual's mindset and thought process differently when compared to another person. People with different backgrounds in development will tend to react and function mentally in different manners. This is because our more impressionable years take place when we are younger, meaning our environment as younger individuals will have an impact on our mindsets as we age and progress throughout life. One theory I have taken an interest in is Sigmund Freud’s Psychosexual theory. More specifically, the stages he defined as well as the reward individuals gain or receive from each stage are what piqued my interest. His belief that as a child grows and develops, each stage was founded on a satisfaction focused on a specific body part is unique and actually confused me to the extent that caused a desire to further learn about the concepts his theory is based on. I would like to further understand where his theory first developed and how he came to the end result as he did, as well as how he aligned each stage with its specific reward per say. Now, my worldview wouldn’t really align with this sort of theory, given I don’t personally see a child only gaining pleasure or gratification throughout life in their body parts. However, I understand that we do in fact find ourselves rewarded in different manners through our body parts in different ways as we grow older and enter certain stages in life. As I learn more about Freud’s theory and his worldview, comparing his with mine as I comprehend his stance on development will be challenging but intriguing as I seek to understand his theory.
