Personal Values and Moral Integrity Roseann Mendoza HLT 305 Grand Canyon University Dr Farinde April 17, 2022
Values are what someone thinks and feels on the inside and morals are what drives a decision and defines the decision made as good or bad. Morals and Values define the individual to the core. Morals and values are ultimately feelings one has that helps them make decisions. My morals and values have developed over the years. I have always known what was good or bad to the definition of others growing up. My upbringing with my family has set a good example of what is right and what is wrong. I have been able to learn the basics of respecting your elders and others around you. My family had a hierarchy of the adults being the ones we respected and listened to. I developed my sense of respect towards adults by my family. As I got older, I have always had that mindset as my foundation. Life experiences have really contributed to who I am today and what I stand for. The most difficult experiences gave me a perspective of giving everyone the benefit of doubt and giving those a chance to prove themselves. I try to make decisions based from what is right for all, over what is right for self. My personal beliefs regarding moral and ethical behavior influence my worldview and behavior significantly. I have this button with in me that doesn’t let me feel right when a lie develops in my head. I am not able to document that something was done if it hasn’t been completed. I work with parents of children in my place of employment, and I cannot easily hang up the phone without feeling as if I had done enough to help someone. I will always take a step back if I ever second guess how something was handled. It is easy to pass of what is important to another and not to you, but for whatever reason, I make their matters, mine as well. This is how I
can get through a workday. I believe that caring for others is a way to exude good moral character. My cultural values and personal traditions influence my worldview and behaviors greatly. I am a Christian and believe that I was created in the image of God. With that there are principles that I must live by in my life. As I have grown in my knowledge of Christ this has guided me into how I go about my daily tasks. I do believe that the holy spirit lives with in me and not only have I been given discernment but also conviction as well, to make the right choices, or make the wrong ones right. Moral conflicts and ethical dilemmas are different in morals are from one’s beliefs and experience and ethics come from a place of rationality. Ethical conflict occurs when two varying morals come into play for what is right and wrong (Kraft, 2017). Within both aspects of each there is always a choice that must be made. Ethical conflicts for example are knowing what rules need to be followed but morally not being able to follow the procedure because that human part of you comes into play. The medical code of ethics, developed by the AMA outlines what is ethical in health care. They are as follows: 1. A physician shall provide competent medical care with compassion and respect for human dignity and rights. 2. 2. A physician shall uphold the standards of professionalism, be honest in all professional interactions, and strive to report physicians with incompetence’s or engaged in fraud or deception to appropriate entities. 3. 3. A physician shall respect the law and recognize a responsibility to seek changes to those requirements that are contrary to the best interests of the patient.
