Andrea Rosenberg MGMT 3610 Professor Moake 12/25/23 Chapter 1 Assignment 1. Please read the file titled “Amazon Management Job Description.” Review the “Managerial Responsibilities” outlined in Chapter 1. Which responsibilities from the chapter are outlined in the list of “Job Responsibilities” in the Amazon job posting? Explain your answers. The Amazon job posting encompasses all nine of the managerial responsibilities outlined in Chapter 1 of the text. (1) Long-range planning is present in the first bullet point requiring “building and maintaining strategic plans for manufacturing, covering capacity planning, infrastructure requirements…required for continuous improvement.” (2) Controlling is specified in the second and third bullet points wherein the manager must “be responsible for operations and managing best practices…” by controlling the allocation and use of labor, finance, and material assets. (3) Environmental scanning means watching for changes in the business environment and is indicated in the fourth bullet point through “identifying risks in the supply chain and reducing liability by shrinking total inventory.” (4) Supervision is clearly posted best in bullet point six by implementing “daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports for all departments” but can also be present in the subsequent bullet point. (5) Coordinating is evident on the seventh bullet point along with supervision in noting the need to supervise a global team in all matters of times, locations, departments, and tasks to align with the business objectives.
(6) Customer relations and marketing as well as (7) community relations both come into play with bullet points 8-10. By noting the need for product quality, financial reporting analysis, and follow-up with all key stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate deliveries they are looking to maintain positive public relations through satisfied customers, suppliers, and investors. (8) Internal consulting is alluded to throughout the posting but is most clearly defined in bullet point eleven by applying management input to company policy and programs for the improvement of the business as a whole. Lastly, (9) monitoring products and services is noted throughout the posting with managerial job requirements specifying direct involvement in the production and fulfillment of company products and services. Nearly all bullet points specify the need to be hands on in all aspects of the business from start to finish by planning and scheduling, through production and manufacturing, and follow-through post-delivery to ensure efficiency and satisfactory metrics at every stage. 2. Based on the same job description, what managerial roles from Chapter 1 are highlighted in the job description? Please be specific. The job description involves all managerial roles in summary depicting informational, interpersonal, and decisional. Informational is to be a monitor, a disseminator, and spokesperson, which is needed to “achieve delivery and production goals in support of the Master Production Schedule” by overseeing information from many sources and being able to efficiently pass the relevant information onward where needed both internally and externally. Interpersonal roles are figurehead, leader, and liaison, evident in the need for “leadership of cross functional teams” by coordinating and supervising efficient productivity. They’re seeking someone to lead by example as a strong figurehead to “develop strategy, hold teams accountable and champion a culture of continuous improvement.” Lastly, decisional roles are entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, and negotiator. These go hand in hand with all the other roles in all aspect of business management as stated in the posting for a candidate needed to be “responsible for all aspects of product assembly/delivery, quality, and process improvement programs.”
