2 Terror Attack Preventions Terrorism is a confrontation between two adversaries. Often spikes to serious levels of terrorism. International terrorism can be committed by individuals or groups affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations or nations. Domestic terrorism can be committed by groups or individuals’ ideologies from domestic influences such as political, religious, social, racial, or environmental (FBI, 2023). Extremism is a person's beliefs that they use to justify their violent acts towards an enemy nation, people, religions, or other interests. It is the precursor to terrorism. Some individuals have their meaning for what terrorism means and some think it can be a simple laid-back definition of the word. There are still ongoing debates about the word and what the definitions are. There are easily more than a hundred definitions, and some agencies use different definitions for the word (Martin, 2020). With a major terrorist attack happening on American soil at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, the Department of Justice will continue to pursue the challenge of protecting Americans from future terror attacks like that of those previous. Some of the strategic objectives to prevent future terrorist attacks from the Department will be to prevent, disrupt, and defeat terrorist operations before they occur (DOJ, 2001-2006). Strategies to achieve the objective will be to establish anti-terrorism task forces within each judicial district to coordinate anti-terrorist activities. Build and maintain the FBI’s fullest capacity to detect, deter, counter, and prevent terrorist activity. Develop an intelligence capability that fully supports the Department’s counterterrorism efforts. Mitigate threats, especially cyber threats, to the U.S. national infrastructure (DOJ, 2001-2006). Fully coordinate with federal, state, and local government agencies in a comprehensive effort to develop and maintain adequate domestic preparedness.
