Page 1 Priyangika Weerappulige_4663971_Assignment 03_ECE6001 Planning Cycle – Observations of Ordinary Moments Child/ren Name/s: Viaan, Sophie, Cloe Pre-Service Teacher Name: Priyangika Dates:28/06/2022 Name of experience: Scooping Collect information There are three children aged approximately 11months- 14 months old are having their lunch. I was feeding Viaan while my mentor teacher feeding other two. When I feed him, he wanted to eat himself and took the spoon from me. I allowed him to take the spoon and eat his own. I was trying to scoop rice and eat but most of the time he took the empty spoon in to his mouth. When he was unable to scoop rice, he tried and tried again. He did not give up and eventually he could successfully scoop some rice and put it to his mouth. Question and analyse i. What do I understand about what I observed? I observed that Viaan displaying his own fine motor skills and strong hand eye coordination skill as he was using the spoon to scoop rice. ii. What did I find interesting or extraordinary? He was showing self-awareness, attention, confident, and willingness to do it further. He has a clear understanding about what he is doing and what he is supposed to do. Besides, he did not give up until he correctly scooped some rice. iii. What learning is being demonstrated? Fine motor skills and use of hand eye coordination skills can be demonstrated in this scooping activity. He holds the spoon in a proper way for his age. He was trying to do it correctly and he wanted to eat his own. iv. What are the interests and strengths of child/ren observed? Viaan shows great skills in his fine motor skill development. He also did not give up until do some successful attempts.

Children have a strong sense of identity- It’s about experiences, especially positive ones including change and transitions where children learn about themselves, can feel significant and respected, grow confidence to explore and learn, have the right to be a child, shape their identity. Viaan engaged in the activity with confidence. He is aware that what he is doing and what he is supposed to do. He didn’t want to give up until scoop the rice successfully. Learning outcome 04. Children are confident and involved learners- Confidence to experiment and explore develops from a sense of security, developing competence, becoming active and involved participants in learning. Viaan is a passionate learner in this activity and develop himself even he is not always successful, but he practices enjoyment in his achievement. Learning outcome 0 5- Children are effective communicators- They use gestures, sounds, language, and assisted communication. Positive experiences with families, communities and carers successfully develop their foundations in language, literacy, and numeracy. Peter is extending his skills by doing it again and again until he successful in scooping. vi. What can I extend on? Ideas for future activities. Use seeds or nuts to scoop and work on scooping different sizes and weights. Scooping and pouring activity using ice and water. Scoop some sand and drop it to a container. Children’s Ages: birth – 2 years Date of Implementation: 28 th June 2022 Reason for experience I have observed Viaan’s interest in scooping. He is 14 months old, and he demonstrated a strong interest of scooping. While Viaan has showed skills in scooping, it is important that illustrate his fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. Changing the scooping materials to raw rice and different sizes containers, and scoops allow children to expand their fine motor skills in an experimentation way. By doing this activity, all children in this age group can develop their fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, and benefit from experience and activities in the classroom. The activity can take place in both indoor or outdoor and additional raw rice, containers, and scoops can be supplied by the educator to encourage children to do the scooping activity. Plan Aims: Help children to build their fine motor skills by giving them creative opportunities to learn through different size materials. Through this activity children can be encouraged to develop their imagination, creativity, and self- awareness, fine motor skills, and hand eye coordination skills. I would also aim to create a supportive environment to maximize learning opportunity and experience for children. Learning aims that are linked to EYLF/VEYLDF I encourage children to Learn about themselves, stay confidence to learn and explore, and shape their identity. Additionally, do the activity to develop competence, and to become active and involved participants in learning. Besides, it is important to encourage them to respond verbally and non-verbally to explain what they see and feel. Strategies: I might do an activity to promote children’s interest, play and, learning using creative resources and encourage them to learn from each other as well as create supportive environment to play and learn. I use different size scoops, raw rice, and different size containers
