This template is directly aligned to your assignment rubric and to the DBQ rubric used on the AP Exam as designed by the College Board. Prompt Turn the prompt into a question to help identify your thesis. Evaluate the relative significance of different effects of the Market Revolution from 1800 through 1860. In other words: What were the most significant effects of the Market Revolution between 1800 and 1860? Contextualization How can you place your argument into the broader historical context? In 3–4 sentences, describe how something that occurs before or during time frame of the question is relevant to your argument that follows. From 1820 to 1830, a great transformation in the United States known as the Market Revolution occurred. This period witnessed a transition from rural, subsistence-based economies to market- driven, industrialized ones. This revolution was fueled by technological advancements, improved transportation networks, and changes in labor patterns. As the country increasingly industrialized, it caused a series of complicated impacts that radically transformed the country's social, economic, and political structure. Thesis: Answers the question Arguable Use supporting point categories to allude to the evidence Although some may argue that the Market Revolution had no positive effects on the United states, great transformations of labor patterns, expansions of market reach, and redefined laborer demographics occurred, bringing respective amounts of notable positive effects on America as a new country.
Focuses on comparison, causation, or continuity and change Supporting Point 1 Include a brief statement explaining how this point supports your thesis. Labor patterns went from exclusively agricultural to factory work that encompassed new technology, which created great demand for jobs and allowed more people to earn wages, positively impacting the American economy through increased labor outputs and money flow. Identify the Evidence for Point 1: List each given document (at least two, need at least six overall) that supports this point. Provide a summary and relevant HAP-P information. List outside information (facts and concepts from your text and lessons) that supports this point. Porter's speech emphasizes the expansion of economic activities, with the eastern states focusing on commerce and manufacturing, and the western states focusing mostly on agriculture. Porter also mentions that the country can benefit as a result of the two different main economic activities because the agricultural side will bring raw materials, and the manufacturing side will produce those materials into proper goods to sell. This leads to the point regarding cotton. As seen in document 6, there was a significant rise in cotton bales harvested and the amount of slaves after the market revolution. This created greater amounts of raw material, leading to increased manufactured goods like clothes that were sold on a mass scale leading to positive economic stimulation. Connect the Evidence for Point 1 Explain how this point, supported by your evidence, connects back to and proves This can be related to the idea proposed by Porter that in order for the American economy to grow, codependence was necessary as raw materials were needed for factories to produce. At that time slaves were the ones harvesting cotton, so document 3 supports the idea of codependence in terms of agricultural activity and manufacturing activity because it shows numbers that signify a rise in harvesting of raw materials, which were sparked by the demand
your thesis. for raw materials to process in factories by the Market Revolution, hence having great social and economic effects as the population of the slaves grew due to demand for raw materials, and the large amount of raw materials led to large amounts of processed exports, leading to the American economy’s growth. Supporting Point 2 Include a brief statement explaining how this point supports your thesis. The growing systems that transported goods significantly impacted the American economy, as the reach of markets increased resulting in greater input and output of goods all around. Identify the Evidence for Point 2: List each given document (at least two, need at least six overall) that supports this point. Provide a summary and relevant HAP-P information. List outside information (facts and concepts from your text and lessons) that supports this point. Document 5 discusses the Cumberland Road Project, a trans- Appalachian road that elevated the economic and social means of the country. The document provides an update on the project at the time, yet also calls the Secretary of the Treasury to increase funding just to stretch the road ever so slightly, as that would make all the difference in terms of increased reach and impact of the road. Furthermore, the development of the steamboat within the era of the Market Revolution greatly impacted America as it further widened the path for transport and spread of raw and produced materials through the ubiquitous and practical routes of rivers. Connect the Evidence for Point 2 Explain how this point, Through the Cumberland Road Project there was an accessible paved road that could be used by many to amplify the means of trans-Appalaichan trade. This expansion of the market reach led to heightened levels of interaction and commerce and exchange of
