TKM1 TASK 2 2 1. I, personally, identify with the behaviorist learning theory. When I was a student in school, I was more motivated to master the topic when teachers would provide feedback to help me improve in areas where I was weak, such as math. Students shape their behavior because of teachers who follow the behaviorist learning theory, which is essential for every student of every grade level. 2. The instructional strategy of direct teaching aligns with my view of teaching because I like to give feedback to my students in order for them to strengthen their weaknesses and improve in certain focus areas. For example, I have a fifth-grade student who finds difficulty learning complex vocabulary words, using direct instruction with him, by repeating the complex words within the text over and over again, allowed him to master the understanding of those vocabulary meanings. When students are told what they are going to be learning, they know what to expect and get prepared for it. Within direct instruction, complex skills are broken into smaller parts, and this aids students who find difficulty in taking in a whole chunk of information that is complex. The strategy provides practice, and there’s feedback given by the teacher which allows the student to take that feedback and create strengths and know where they’re at within the content. Having this done, mastery is accomplished by the students with the guidance of the teacher as the strategy is teacher-directed. 3. First-grade students would need direct instruction in behavioral learning in reading as they wouldn’t be as competent as higher grade levels such as fifth grade.
