Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center and read about Academic Integrity expectations at GCU. Academic integrity in academic writing is essential. This week you are learning about paraphrasing existing research. Explain why students need to know how to paraphrase in order to avoid plagiarism in all its forms, including self-plagiarism. Explain what is meant by self-plagiarism. paraphrasing existing research I am amazed to learn about how GCU is heavily involved in students’ academic success and invested in providing academic resources for us to be successful. One of these resources is the student success center. The assignment was to learn about academic integrity while knowing how to paraphrase in order to prevent plagiarism including self-plagiarism. Academic integrity assumes that everyone is committed to submit their original work and give due credit to the original work as needed. However, issues raises when you run into the gray areas such as how to provide proper credit to the original source when you found the information in the new journal instead or you decided to write about the same topic you previously written in the past. This is where self-plagiarism comes in. I must admit this is the topic I really appreciate learning more about as there is a lot which has changed over the years when writing academic assignments. The paraphrasing is an essential skill requiring of student to ensure that plagiarism avoided while continue to cite the original work without copy and paste (Garmston, 2006). This is a perfect example of reintroducing the existing information without repeating the same words while allowing you to insert the focused agreement to support your topic. References GCU Student Success Center. (n.d.). https://ssc.gcu.edu/#/page/academic-integrity Garmston, R. J. (2006). Skillful paraphrasing allows groups to examine what is being said. Group Wise , 27 (3). Hi, I agree with you the academic integrity is expected of all students to avoid plagiarism. Often the issue is not that students do not give credit to the authors but rather do not know how to paraphrase. In addition to avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing also help us transition from one argument to another without losing the flow. For example, if we are writing about the winter crops and making a point about how easy growing potato are in
Michigan to grow, it will not help if we talk about how well almonds doing in the California sun despite this is part of the same journal we are quitting. Sorry for confusing example but this helps be understand the concept better. Based on your paper topic from Topic 1 , use the GCU Library and find 10 related references and create a reference page per 7 th edition APA formatting. References cannot be more than 5 years old.  Visit the Writing Center at the Student Success Center to locate the APA 7 th edition template. Download the template to use for this assignment and your research paper assignment. Your work must be organized, so you need to have a title page, you must label each category for the references, and list them in alphabetical order. View the attached "Sample Reference List" to assist you with this assignment. You must find a total of 10 references.  Of the 10, you must include at least one resource reference from each of the categories listed below: Book (this can be an academic scholarly ebook) Book chapter (Book chapters must have editors and will have different authors throughout) Journal article (must be scholarly - scholarly means it's been peer reviewed) Website (.gov or .org) Dissertation/thesis (ProQuest database) Place your resources in proper APA 7th edition format under the References section of the Word document template to submit to your instructor. Prepare this assessment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. This assignment uses a scoring guide. Please review the scoring guide prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.
