©Dr. Ahmad Jrade 1 Civil Engineering CVG 4173A Construction Management Group Case Project Fall 2019 XYZ Manufacturing Inc. is one of the leading manufacturers of steering wheels, air bags, and shift levers. Located in Oakville, Ontario, XYZ provides services to some of the largest car companies in the world such as, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, and General Moto
rs. The company’s ever-
growing need for production has resulted in the greater need for warehouse and manufacturing space. Currently, XYZ Manufacturing Inc. is interested in building an additional 80,000 square foot warehouse to accommodate these needs. The 80,000 square foot addition in Oakville, Ontario will be added to an existing 194,000 square foot facility. This addition will provide adequate space for state-of-the-art equipment essential to the growing needs of the company. Located on the south east corner of the existing site, the addition will not only provide work space but also additional parking for new employees. To carry out the construction, a section of existing hot mix asphalt will have to be removed along with other site obstructions. The proposed building will allow XYZ Manufacturing Inc. to stay competitive in their area of expertise. As an expert, XYZ Manufacturing Inc. would like you to use the provided 3D model (Autodesk Revit 2018 version) and specifications to generate a report that contains details about the following requirements: •
Identify the quantities of material required for construction, •
The total cost of the project,
©Dr. Ahmad Jrade 2 •
The scope of the work by using a compatible WBS and by identifying all the associated work packages needed to build the warehouse, •
A work plan that shows the sequence of execution (sequential order of the construction activities), •
The construction time required to finish the project. To ease the difficulty of this case study, the assigned groups will need to complete the following modules in due course. This will help you overcome carried forward mistakes especially since all the case components are dependent on each other. Also, this will allow groups to correct or modify any items before the final submission. Each group may have different answers, and thus the grading is based on the methodology followed. Use the provided model to complete the following: •
Module 1 (Due on 05 November 2019)
: o
Create a WBS that will help determine the scope of all the project work, o
Calculate excavation and backfilling quantities, o
Calculate a preliminary cost estimate by using R. S. Means, o
Create a quantity takeoff list for all items, •
Module 2 (Due on 19 November 2019)
: o
Determine the machinery required in excavation and backfilling, o
Identify the productivity of each machine and determine the time required to operate each machine based on quantities, o
Calculate the remaining quantities and the costs required for the whole work packages (identified in the WBS), •
Module 3 (Due on 3 December 2019)
: o
Identify the labor crews required by each work package (identified in the WBS), o
Identify the crew size required for each work package, o
Identify the productivity of each crew per package, o
Identify the time required to construct each work package based on the calculated productivities, o
Develop a network using MS project (based on the WBSs) that indicates the time for each work package, o
Calculate the probability of finishing the project within the calculated duration,

Read the small case study about the process design of Boeing's 777 aircraft:
Boeing brings its customers on board Arguably the most innovative new passenger aircraft to enter service over the last few years was the Boeing 777, a new twin-engined aircraft, in the 300-plus seats category to compete with established models from McDonnell and Airbus The existence of established competitor products is important. When Boeing developed the 747 'Jumbo' jet aircraft, it had no direct competitors. The company's customers either wanted the product or they didn't. Not so for the 777; Boeing knew that it must consider its customers' requirements.
The company had to take a new course to understand its customers' needs and then to transform that knowledge into an aircraft that could best meet those needs. Boeing has always maintained close involvement with its customers, but this project called for a new depth of listening and understanding Initially, eight large potential customers (including…
