The research problem I would like to explore further is archeology within anthropology and how archaeologist and anthropologist were able to research bodies from approximately 4500 years ago that were buried with care. This problem relates to my field of study which is Anthropology and Archaeology because there is multiple protocols to dig up remains of certain ethnic groups of people. For example, Native Americans believe that they are the rightful owners of deceased people within there tribes and respective kinsmen. This is relevant because we can learn from our Ancient Ancestors on how we evolved to who we are today, and we can also learn of diseases that they may have had and can look at our own DNA and Chromosomes to determine if we may have potential risks to various diseases. Six cases of Down syndrome and one case of Edwards syndrome were found by the study among human groups that lived as far back as 4,500 years ago in Spain, Bulgaria, Finland, and Greece (University of Adelaide, 2024). Sociological science and humanist research methods are combined in anthropology. Anthropology, a qualitative technique that delves deeply into the reasons and mechanisms underlying human culture, behavior, and expression, is what distinguishes anthropology from other academic fields. This ethnographic approach allows anthropologists to unearth novel insights that can only be discovered by in-depth, multi-perspective, long-term, in-person research on a subject. An integrated and contextual understanding of the phenomenon being studied is created by the ethnographic method, which employs a variety of data gathering strategies such as focus groups, interviews, participant observation, and textual analysis. Anthropologists make observations and investigate viewpoints from many approaches and in various methods while conducting study (Bureau of Health Workforce, 2013). In order to spot new themes and gain understanding of the significance of the data, anthropologists immerse themselves in the rich, primarily qualitative data collection that emerges from their study and do iterative analyses. The
objective of an anthropological method is a reliable, well-described, repeatable interpretation of the facts that yields insightful information (Bureau of Health Workforce, 2013). Qualitative data is primarily used but quantitative data is used only if it complements the qualitative data. I believe that qualitative data is primarily used because as an anthropologist we use specific groups to study and primarily rely on data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and focus groups. I believe that quantitative is not usually used because it doesn’t typically answer all research questions that are presented. If there’s not enough study methodologies finding enough research for my field of study could be very difficult. Limitations on research methodology, data collection procedures, sample sizes, prior studies conducted on the subject, and data validity may arise from an absence of suitable or easily accessible resources. It should be easy to find a few papers that address Down syndrome because there are many qualitative research studies that address the topic. One can look at this kind of research in a variety of ways. Group discussions and interviews could be beneficial. It's also an effective way to get important data for social work projects. Assume I required assistance in discovering a study that employed qualitative methods. My study's subject could be changed. If not enough information is found, I will explain my search approach. Now when it comes to Edwards syndrome it may be more difficult because it’s not that common. Through the examination of ancient DNA, a global group of scientists has discovered instances of chromosomal abnormalities, possibly involving the first-ever identification of Edwards syndrome from ancient bones. One instance of Edwards syndrome, a rare disorder brought on by three copies of chromosome 18, which has symptoms significantly worse than those of Down syndrome, was also discovered by the study. (University of Adelaide, 2024).
