Absecon Bay (ab-suh-KUHN), SE N.J., bet. Absecon and Atlantic City; 2.5 mi/4 km long. Absecon Inlet, N of Atlantic City, is principal entrance. Absecon Beach, a 10 mi/16 km sandbar bridged at several points to mainland, is SE of Absecon across Absecon Bay; on it are Atlantic City and other resorts. Lighthouse at N tip; landmark (1854–1932); no longer used. Lucy, “The Margate Elephant” (a six-story hollow pachyderm), is in S. It is a natl. historic landmark.
