facilitate (v.)

is a self-consciously impressive sort of word meaning much the same thing as help, assist, or make easier. In Edited English you can facilitate things or actions but not people: You can facilitate Mary’s arrival or her trip to the embassy, but you do not facilitate Mary.  1
