| Satin was the original shiny silk fabric, smooth and slippery, and it has subsequently been imitated in rayon, nylon, and other fibers. Sateen is usually the cotton imitation of satin; the word is modeled on velveteen, which is the cotton imitation of silks velvet. | 1 |
