satin, sateen (nn.)

Satin was the original shiny silk fabric, smooth and slippery, and it has subsequently been imitated in rayon, nylon, and other fibers. Sateen is usually the cotton imitation of satin; the word is modeled on velveteen, which is the cotton imitation of silk’s velvet.  1
