beseech (v.)

The past tense and past participle, besought or beseeched, are in evenly divided usage, and both are Standard, though perhaps somewhat literary: He beseeched [besought] her to trust him. Beseeched may occur somewhat less frequently with a nonhuman direct object than does besought, which in turn seems to be giving way to sought. Compare SEEK.  1
