ACCENT 1 (n.)
He speaks with a slight foreign accent means that his speech has some foreign-sounding consonants, vowels, or intonations, even though his speech may in all other respects be impeccable Standard English. Dont use dialect as though it were interchangeable with this sense of accent; accent is a characteristic of speech; only in eye dialect does accent (1) appear in writing. See DIALECT.
