protégé(e) (n.)

This word, borrowed from French, usually but not always retains both its acute accent marks in American use. The masculine protegé is sometimes used for female referents as well, although the feminine protegée also occurs, especially in Edited English. Pronounce both forms either PRO-tuh-ZHAI or PRO-te-ZHAI.  1
