apart from (prep.)

This two-word preposition is Standard in both American and British English, meaning both “except for” and “besides,” depending on context: Apart from the new freshmen, all the students were there. Apart from the members of the chorus, we also had to accommodate a full orchestra on the stage. See ASIDE FROM; BESIDES.  1
