episcopal, Episcopal (adjs.), Anglican, Episcopalian (adjs., nn.)

The adjective episcopal means “governed by bishops” and applies to Protestant churches so governed, including particularly the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Church in Britain. These two churches, plus the Canadian and other churches of this group, are referred to as the Anglican Communion. The congregations of these churches—all Anglicans—are also called Episcopalians in the United States, and the related adjectives are used to describe attributes of the churches and their constituents.  1
